I almost decided NOT to buy DVD MovieFactory 7 when the "fully functional" trial kept warning me of feature corruption and the need to reinstall every time I tried to edit DVD-VR (which is the main promised capability that led me to the product). Since there was a 30-day refund privilege I decided to go ahead and buy just in case the trial really wasn't "fully functional." But the result was the same. Tried the patch, no change. Then I decided to install the "Extra Pack," but didn't hold out much hope, because (a) the earlier error messages had warned of corruption as the culprit, and (b) I couldn't see why a "standard feature" would be in something called "Extra" -- which wasn't even second in the list of downloads offered up (it was 3rd or 4th). Fortunately though, that did the trick by mysteriously the installing the "Direct Disc Recorder" program that is apparently needed. The VR-editing wprks nicely.
But the strange, and strangely undocumented, wording of the other downloads offered left me confused, even though I did locate another thread that provides a brief sense of what the "Content Pack" and the "Bonus Pack" each adds.
My question: If installed, can these latter two packs later be uninstalled independently from the main program, and without any adverse effect?
Also, has anyone been able to import any mp4 (avc/h.264) files without an instant "file mismatch" error or a not-so-instant crash? I haven't.
Thanks.
Are extra packs uninstallable? Is *any* mp4 importable?
mp4 Import Solution
Already solved the second of my questions:
To my utter surprise, I just "fell into" a solution that allows me to quickly import most mp4 files into a DVD MovieFactory project -- no more "file mismatch" error or crashing. The key was installing the latest release of "LAV Filters," and voila! (Actually, it was the automatic decoder/splitter updating function in the media player I use which identified, downloaded, installed and configured LAV, I probably never would have thought of trying it otherwise.
