"Failed to convert video file Error:80041c21"

Post by pepper3245 »

I'm running VS8 trial version. P4-2.4G, 768M RAM, XP SP2, NEC 3500A.

During "create disc" for DVD, I get the convert file error at 93% complete. I have the proper codec and everything seems fine.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, Keith

Keith,
Please read the top post (NEW USERS PLEASE READ...) and click the first link to the Recommended Procedure.

Don't buy this product. For the same price ($99.00) you can buy a far superior product like Premier Elements or Vegas Movie Studio.

Ulead has too many bugs and software errors to be worth your money.

Are you burning from a project file - not recommended - or are you rendering first (Share => Create Video File) - recommended.
The process is likely to fall over if you go straight from the timeline/project stage to burning.
ALWAYS RENDER BEFORE YOU BURN.

I was creating a disk image from a large (2 Hour-25 Gig) AVI captured from a digital camera. I was creating a disk image of the first hour to fit on one DVD. I tried to render a shorter segment (15 minutes) just to see what would happen - it created the Disk image OK. I wonder if I an having a memory problem since I do not know what causes the error message. I have an AMD 750 M processor with 384 MEG of memory. I can capture the AVI OK but with a few dropped frames. I am considering a computer upgrade but I have seen posts with this error on much more powerful computers.

Any suggestions

I have an avi file on my HD & tried to produce a DVD & got above error.
If I burn directly to DVD it sems to create the disk but if I try to save as an image it saves nothing.
Is this error message defined anywhere?
What is going on here

I rendered the AVI to MPEG2 and then created a disk image - it worked. I also burned a DVD from both the Disk Image and directly from the MPEG2 -both worked. I guess you should not create a disk image directly from an AVI.
Any thoughts.

This is a serious question:

What other method would encourage newbies to read a post entitled "NEW USERS PLEASE READ..." and follow a "Recommended Procedure" that has been developed by successful users of Video Studio?

One possibility to get people to read a post like NEW USERS PLEASE READ would be to place it in printed material. I had a small manual which came with the software. It was very vague regarding rendering video before burning.

In my case, I was taking a video, not altering it, adding menus and getting this error. I got it trying to create a disk image an not burn.

When I wrote to Tech Support, they told me to put on a patch, said I need to try a differend DVD and several other things.

Another approach would be to provide a lookup to these cryptic error messages to english explanations.

I write software for a living and am continuously working with the support people to make sure that they are current with the application so users undersand what they need to do. In my case, I would be able to do a text search for the error code in the source to find out EXACTLY what the error refers to. Not give some half baked unrelated suggestions.

Sorry to blow off steam, but I am somewhat underwhelmed with the documentation and support I've seen so far.

The video editing part has worked well, but once I get into the "Share" section things get vague from my experience.

From my experience, the 80041c21 error means "file converting error", usually happens when you use an AVI file with some specific CODEC like XviD or 3ivX, which might not be compatible with Ulead products.

I usually use some other converting tool like TMPGEnc to convert the AVI to MPEG2, and that solved my problem, just like what cswimm said.

If you are using DV AVI files, then it's OK to use them directly in Ulead products.

Hope this helps.

Any help that you can render would be appreciated.

I have a project that is 1:20:12:28 I have had to approach this by shortening the project and after the alterations I started to receive the error message... Where is the "NEW USERS PLEASE READ" information? Our program was a preset program that came with our computer.

Soooooo, if it's in a manual I'm up the creek. Help!!!

There was a memory leak bug that caused problems with the transcoding, and which was fixed in V8.01. Unfortunately, you can't apply the patch to the trial version.

Other possible causes would be corrupted source files, overheating problems, PSU problems etc.

PS: The NEW USERS PLEASE READ thread is the first thread in this forum, and the manual can be downloaded as a PDF file here.
