Very long to open PSP. 26 seconds today...Why soooo slooow?
I've been averaging about 10-15 seconds from clicking on a pic until the program opens and the pic is displayed. Today a .jpg (272KB) took 26 seconds from clicking the pic to PSP opening and displaying it.
I have everything disabled in startup and all non Microsoft services except Protexis unchecked.
PSP ProX4 was just purchased and installed last week and has the latest patch.
Intel 2600K @ 4.5Ghz/8Gb RAM/1Tb main HDD/Asus Radeon 5870/Asus P8P67 Deluxe mobo.
Why is PaintShop Pro X4 so crazy slow to open?

it's a very good question.
it takes over 30 seconds on my computer. it is the slowest launching application i have. slower than PS cs5.
it doesn't appear to be doing much during that 30 seconds either. i could be wrong but i think it's something to do with protexis.

I would love for X4 to open in 26 seconds. Just now on my Windows XP computer, it took 55 seconds for the X4 desktop to appear and another 3 minutes for the hourglass to go away so I could actually use the program. It might open faster if it was not trying to load the last folder I had open in the organizer but I would have to wait those minutes if I opened the organizer afterwards.

It takes 6 seconds the first time I open PSP X4, after that it takes just 4 seconds.
I have disabled nothing on my computer except the PSP organizer (excluded all file extensions, excluded all disks and folders).

About 3 - 5 seconds on my machine. (Asus with 4gig. i3.500gig HD)
Much much faster than x3 ever was.
It's now a joy to open and close x4 whenever I want it.
There must be a technical reason why it varies so much.
Try clearing the cache. Close x4 and then reopen it. See if there's a difference.

Re: Very long to open PSP. 26 seconds today...Why soooo sloo
FWIW, mine takes 15 seconds to open the program on a newly rebooted computer. The splash screen indicates various elements of the program are being loaded. If I then close the program, don't reboot the computer, and then reopen X4 at some later stage it takes just over 5 seconds to reopen. So obviously some aspects of the program stay resident. That is on an i3 4 GB ram 1TB HDD. Opening photos in a variety of formats, and sizes, is always near instantaneous.

There are many reasons why this happens. But the most common cause is the workspace, you may want to reset your workspace.
NOTE: All customization that you made will be removed.
You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

Resetting my workspace didn't help.

Re: Very long to open PSP. 26 seconds today...Why soooo sloo
Resetting my workspace on my XP computer had interesting results. The first time I tried to reopen I had to re-register and that makes about a dozen times by now. I opened a folder in the Navigation pane, with only 18 images, closed and reopened. It took 45 second this time; closed and reopened again and this time it took 3 minutes and 30 seconds to open to the same place. I didn't open a single image, or reset my preferences or anything else, just open and close, open and close, and open.

Re: Very long to open PSP. 26 seconds today...Why soooo sloo
I find that if I click on a file from a folder PSPx4 will take about 15 seconds to open that file to a stage where it can be worked on. However if I first start x4 then 'Open' the same file then it takes a total of about 10 seconds. (5 to start PSPx4 and 5 to open the file). So it's always quicker to open x4 first rather than jumping striaght from the file.
Not sure that helps.

Do you have the Organizer Palette enabled in your workspace? Does closing that change anything?

I don't use the Organiser at all. The only thing I use x4 for is the Edit mode.
Maybe that's the difference.

Nope. I also only use the Edit page (and without Organizer)... and the above times were based on that.
