I am embarrassed to ask such a basic question--but the majority of my media are still pictures for a bridal slide show, and I was wondering how to manually render "pan and zoom" like effects for each photo as the dimensions differ and I want to crop out the extra "black space" from my vertical pictures.
Most of these pics were scanned in at 600 dpi (they are old as the hills), but I also have a crop of jpgs they sent at 92 dpi...
I wish I were more savvy--I JUST purchased Corel Video--having used Roxio products for the past 5 years (wanting to take it up a notch). Of course this needs to be completed in 2 days, so if anyone can help I am FOREVER grateful!

With the photo in the timeline click on the "FX" icon up the right hand side of the preview screen - the filter effects panel will open - scroll down to the bottom to find a filter called 'Video Pan and Zoom' - drag and drop this filter onto your photo - now open the options panel (small blue tag at the bottom right of the filter library panel) and in the options panel click on "Customise Filter". A window will then open in which you can set the size of the zoom (by dragging yellow boxes) - the direction of the Pan (by moving the crosses on screen) and set key frames (in the mini timeline) so that you can zoom in and out and pan on an individual photo. There are also several other options in that window to set transparency, zoom ratio, play speed, etc. Repeat for each photo, setting individual effects for each one.
It does take a few minutes to familiarise yourself with all the functions in there as it is a quite powerful tool - but once mastered in can greatly enhance a slideshow.
Have a search around Youtube for "VideoStudio Tutorials" - some of them are very good and I'm sure I've seen one on pan and zoom

Hi lovetoedit1974
The option to use the Video Pan and Zoom filter works very well but you may find it retains the black borders, this filter does not resize the frame.
Other filters……………
The Picture in Picture filter is worth looking at, but is a little difficult to master, at least that’s how I found it.
In addition you have to apply Chroma Key affect to remove the black borders.
-----------------------------------------------
The basic Pan and Zoom tool from the Options panel -- Photo Tab may do what you require.
Customise similar to Brian’s explanation.
The option to copy the key-frame (right click key-frame) then paste to another is very useful.
In addition once you have set the first image pan & zoom you can if you wish copy the attributes to other clips, right click the clip in the timeline and select copy attributes, paste to other images,
Shift + click will select multiple adjacent clips.
------------------------------------
The next time you scan an image to be used in a video use an aspect ratio of 16:9 or 4:3, the image will fit to the video frame without further cropping.
------------------------------------
Be aware that some of the perimeter of your mage will not be displayed when viewing on a TV screen due to overscan, approximately 10%, so crop the images to the centre of the frame, the safe area.
To give an idea of the safe area click the “T” title option then double click the preview screen
The rectangle you see is the safe area, some of the the area outside may not be viewable on tv.

not forgetting - that whichever filter you choose to use the background behind the picture can be changed to any colour at all that may harmonise with your photo - the 'borders' if you need to end up with any do not have to be black but may for instance in a wedding picture be white.

This is one area in which I use Vegas, which is far superior to Corel in this regard. Both programs have their strengths and weakness. Using both is awesome!
