Video Studio 9 not compatible with Plextor video recorder

Post by lparker69 »

I received a copy of Video Studio 8SE with my Plextor hardware. I was told by Plextor that the software had been customized to work with their hardware, but that the Video Studio 9 retail version is not compatible with the hardware. I have gotten as far as to get the capture plugin to be recognized, but it still tells me I am missing a driver. I was told by someone else on the web board that they thought the application could be made to work with the Plextor and that it was just a matter of finding all the necessary files and getting them into the VS9 directory.

I was wondering, if there is anyone out there who could send me a sorted (by file type) listing of their Video Studio 8 directory, then I might be able to compare it to my directory and determine which files are unique in my folder and be able to move those to the VS9 directory and possibly get it to work to capture from my Plextor hardware.

If anyone out there can help me, I'd appreciate it.

Thanks

Basically what he needs is for someone to execute a DIR /O > filelist.txt from a command prompt inside the C:\Program Files\Ulead Systems\Ulead VideoStudio 8.0 directory, and then post the contents of the filelist.txt file here.

What Plextor "hardware" do you have?

Are you trying to extract the MPEG video from a DVD?

Are you saying that 8SE worked, but 9 doesn't?

Maybe you can leave 8SE installed, and use that for capture. Sometimes I use several different programs for capture, video editing, audio editing, DVD authoring, artwork & labels, etc.

I have a Plextor DVD burner, and I don't have any problems reading or writing... I did have problems writing when I had Roxio installed, and I've never tried to "capture" a portion of the video, but I have copied complete DVDs. Of course, Video Studio cannot "back-up" commercial (copy-protected) DVDs.

In general, your computer hardware drivers do not interface directly with the application (Video Studio). The drivers interface with the operating system, an the application also interfaces with the operating system. With the operating system in-between, the hardware shouldn't matter. (Just like any word processor should work with any printer.)

Of course there are always exceptions to the above... And, analog capture devices seem to be a big exception!

Nope, that's not it. Apparently Plextor bundles a version of UVS 8 SE with the PX-M402U capture device, and they include a custom capture driver that gets installed -- see this thread.
