Using VS12 to generate a movie for an Apple PC on Win7 PC

Post by mgrogan »

I am using Video Studio V12.0.98.0 (Pro X2)

I can successfully output an .mpg file for a Windows 7 laptop attached to a LG BX324 Projector.
http://www.lg.com/au/business-solutions ... -BX324.jsp

I use Share | Create Video File | HDV | HDV 1080i 50i for HDV option to achieve this.

I would like to output a movie suitable for an Apple Computer, in frame height 1080 x 1440, as this presentation is for a lecture theatre.

Currently, I do not have access to this Apple computer. I am trying to play a movie generated by Video Studio on my Win 7 PC using my Windows QuickTime Player 7.7.1.

May I ask, is this the way I can test if I can successfully generate a movie suitable for an Apple computer using my Win7 PC?

I've been stumbling around with the share options, but all I seem to be generating is movies of a small size e.g 576 x 720.

Which Share settings should I be using for movie of 1080 x 1440?

Thank you

:)

Margaret

Many thanks.

Do you really mean 1080 x 1440 (which is a most unusual shape) or 1440 x 1080?

The HDV video you are using is an international standard, and comes as 1440 x 1080 out of the camera. I would have thought that it should be able to be played directly by an Apple computer in its original format.

Editing it in Apple may be another matter as I understand that only Final Cut Pro (Apple) can handle HDV in its native format. iMovie, on the other hand, transcodes it using the Apple Intermediate codec. However, it is my understanding that you only want to play HDV (which has already been edited by VS) on an Apple computer; and as I say, an Apple should be able to do that.

There are only a few formats that are standard and will play on any computer. (I've never owned a Mac, but I believe they are more standardized than PCs.) I'd want to try it out on the actual Mac you'll be using.

If that's not possible and this something critical, I recommend you also burn a regular video-DVD (as a back-up) which will play on any system with a DVD-drive and DVD-player software. (Of course, your DVD won't be HD but it will be standardized.) Or, if you have a Blu-Ray burner and the playback Mac has a Blu-Ray player that's another way to standardize.

Oops my error - I did mean 1440 x 1080.

I am putting together a movie of photographs, bird calls (.mp3) and movies of lyrebirds (previously editing using VS12 of clips saved as .mpg.
This "Share"/output presentation movie is for a friend who is giving the talk. He has successfully used Win 7 laptop and projector for his talks which he used vlc player to stop and start the movie as he gave his talk.

This presentation is to for an apple computer at a university (not close to home), where he will have access to the Apple less than an hour before his presentation.

I am apple-ignorant. I thought as QuickTime was a generic Apple product, I thought of "Share"/output presentation movie as a .mov, but I'm lost on what options to use.

I want to play it only on the Apple.

Many thanks for your suggestions.
