Navigation search in X4 only searches current folder?

I read the Help screens, and don't want to get into fancy auto-collections stuff - but in X2, my last version, I typed to look up files and it checked -- well, the entire hard drive for anything that matched. Now I see it checking ONLY the folder I'm in now. Isn't there an in-between? For example, if I want it to find everything in my sub-folders of my Work Pix 11 folder, can't I do that as easily as I used to, just start typing the filename? Or do I have to navigate to the specific folder first
