How to lock image position during zoom

Post by jparnold »

Sorry about the subject - could not think of anything more appropriate.

I have a high res image of a map and I want to add it to a project and ZOOM in to a particular spot on that image.

I also want the image to stay unzoomed for a short time, then zoom in and then remain zoomed in for a short time.

I have added two 'key frames' (using add key frame) and have applied the zoom between them.

My problem is how to make sure the image doesn't move between the start and the first key frame (and between the second key frame and the end)
I know that I can drag the RED CROSS using my mouse but I am finding it almost impossible to end up with the image without at least one black stripe on one edge (ie image not centered).

The result is that the resulting video clip moves slightly on the screen between the start and key frame 1 (and also between the zoomed in image at the second key frame and the end of the clip).

Is there a method like 'snap to grid) to force the image to the same place as the previous key frame?

I hope that I have explained myself correctly.

Thanks

In this regard, I use another program (V----,) for special effects only, which has an excellent Pan/Crop facility.

Hi John
Sorry but do not have VS running at the moment but from memory….
If you right click a key-frame you will see the option to copy the key-frame details and be able to paste to all or another key-frame.

This should allow you to reproduce the pan & zoom locations

Hi Trevor

Thanks heaps. Copy/Paste is the answer.

BTW as the 'user guide' which came with X$ Pro is very basic and I haven't found much satisfaction with anything but basic things in the tutorials I have found there is a book named
Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4
I have only seen it on the internet and wonder if it goes into things other than basic (like what those 9 anchor squares do in pan and zoom (I have not found anything in the user manual or tutorrials.

Hi John

The nine square anchor points simply reposition the keyframe to that position. Top Left/Right, centre etc

First select any keyframe on the timeline rule, the arrow changes to red indicating this as the active keyframe.

When you first view the Pan & Zoom multiple keyframes will be on top of each other, this makes it tricky to select the correct point (cross hair), by using one of the Nine will move the selected key frame allowing you to easily position.

The last Keyframe may need to be in the centre, select and hit the middle nine.

Trevor,

I should have explained myself better (when I referred to the use of the 9 anchor point boxes when mentioning looking for a book which goes in depth into VS XP ) as I have already worked them out.

I have looked at the docs for VS10 and they explain things in more depth than the crummy little book which comes with X4 (see [age 78). Why couldn't Corel use previous docs as a 'template' for the X4 docs or is that politics (don't want to be seen accepting what someone else has already done)? They both have exactly the same number of pages but the v10 docs are A4 and the X4 user guide much smaller with only about half as much information per page.

Do you know (or anyone else reading this) anything about the book Picture Yourself Making Creative Movies with Corel VideoStudio Pro X4

The reviews look ok.

Have a great Christmas

John
