Digital Noise Removal Problem?

Post by WilsonC »

First, I know I've posted a lot about 'bugs' and problems I've encountered with the software. But, I actually do like using the software and I do like the updates and where it is heading. 8)

I ran into a small problem last night when using the Digital Noise Removal plugin. I was playing with settings and unlinked the Noise Correction sliders and moved them about. Then I tried linking them back and clicked on the Large slider to make further adjustments when a blank alert dialog popped up. I can click the blank button and it disappears and seems to continue work, although the settings barely move. Each time I adjust the Large slider after this I get the same dialog.

Once again, can anybody else duplicate this?

I can't replicate this.
I un-linked the settings, entered your numbers, re-linked, Applied.
No problems.

Sorry Christopher, but it works as it should here.
Strange numbers though :-)

It can be a problem with your workspace. Have you tried resetting the PSP X4 Workspace?

You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

Haven't tried that yet, Abiel. Will that reset my preferences or customized hotkeys?

I just gave it a shot, but the empty dialog pops up still. Kinda strange. As long as I know it's there then I can work around it. I will have to check my other system and see if I can duplicate it there.

As a side note, it appears that customized hotkeys are stored with a workspace? (which is very, very nice)

Ok, did another quick test on my other system. This is on a laptop running Win7 64. I get the same dialog, but this time there is text!

there does seem to be something a bit strange. when i unlink them and link them again, and slide them about i get a bonging noise like i would expect to get as a pop up occurs but no pop up.

the logic seems a bit confused too. i don't know if it's by design or not but if you set them to different values and re link them they move together but at their respective levels until one of them can't move any more where it waits and they all go back to sync.

I just noticed that I only get the pop up when using the drop-arrow quick adjustment thingy to change the settings. When I use the up and down arrows then I don't get the pop up at all.

Just a thought, what security software do you have? This may be something else taking focus in the OS, sometimes security software can do that.

Try this, open your task manager (Ctrl Shift Esc), click the performance tab, click Resource Monitor...
On the Resouce Monitor window click the CPU tab. Find your security software's process.

Now go back to PSP and recreate your error, imediately jump back to Resource Monitor. Did your CPU usage for that security process spike? If so, you may want to create an exception for PSP in your security software.

Thanks for the input! I'm running Norton on both systems. Looking at the performance before and immediately after the problem I cannot spot any difference in the statistics for that process. I also tried setting exceptions for PSP with Norton, and it did not seem to affect the pop up problem.

i'm pretty sure it is just a bug in the program surrounding how it handles the problem of when the parameters are set differently then linked and the adjustment of one causes clipping in another.

If you sort by Average CPU usage is there any other process that's spiking when you do something in PSP?

The only other thing that pops up to the top of the CPU usage is the "audiodg" service. Which I assume has to do with the audio alert that I am getting from the pop-up (same as others have posted above). I appreciate all the input. It appears that I will have to avoid using the drop arrow slider input since the up and down arrows work without triggering the alert pop-up.
