Canvas Size on PSPX4

Post by pasclovis »

Hi everybody,

I've been using PSP for a long time now (fisrtly PSP7 and now PSP9) and I wanted to buy the new version PSPX4. I downloaded the free-trial version and I saw that it is impossible to generate files bigger than 10'000x10'000 pixels. In the canvas size menu, it's impossible to give a higher number. The problem is that a made bigger files with PSP9 and I'd like to keep on working on it without resizing them.
So my question is : Is it only a limitation of the trial version or is it simply impossible to work with bigger images than 10k x 10k ? I hope there is a simple solution because PSP9 encounters some problems with Win7...
Thanks for your replies.

I can only tell you that the "purchased" version of PSPX4 with SP1 still has the 10000 pixel limit. I don't know of a way around it.

Thanks for your reply. That's a shame ! I'm working on some pieces of maps (already big) and I try to merge them to make a bigger one... so it generate a huge file, but PSP9 can do it. I can't figure out why they limite this parameter.
What about PSPX2 o X3 ? Doesn't anyone know about the maximum canvas size in these versions ?

X4 was the first to limit to 10,000 pixels per side. The rest maintain the 32,000 (it might be 23,000...I can't remember) some odd pixels.

I just checked PSP8 and X2. PSP8's limit is somewhere between 13,250 and 13,300 pixels and X2's limit is 23,000 pixels.

I get 32767 pixels on X2U. I tried to check X3, but it's telling me the copy has been damaged or illegally modified (like I would do that) and to re-install. Probably because I renamed that POS organizer.

jaxman43, that error usually occurs when Protexis either isn't running or isn't allowed through your firewall (PsiService_2.exe). It would be a pain to reinstall when you could make sure that's up and running first.

It must depend on your operating system. I can't open anything larger than 23,040 x 23,040 in X2 Ultimate on WinXP. I've got 3gb of RAM which is more than enough for PSP.

32767 x 32767 is the max canvas size for 16 bit gdi, IIRC. I was surprised to see the 10000 pixel limit of my recently purchased copy of PSP X4. Ulead/Corel PhotoImpact X3 still has its max canvas clipped to 32000x32000, but reportedly is not supported in Win 7.

Years ago, when I first got interested in this numbers game, Adobe products typically clipped at a maximum of 30,000 pixels or less, with a corresponding limit on either resolution or paper size when printed. However that 30,000 pixel limit was lifted for pdfs a long time ago in the 32 bit world.

Not that I ever print much of anything, particularly in large format, but the number ratios involved in printing wallpaper sized charts, etc, interested me.
