miniDV to DVD

Post by dlykins »

Help!

I have a new sony DCR-PC350 miniDV camcorder that provides excellent video quality when played back on my TV.

However, when I use uLEAD videostudio to try and make a DVD on my computer, the quality is horrible....not worth it!!!
I have tried playing the DVD on my Sony progressive scan DVD player on my tv and its still very low quality!!!

What am I doing wrong?
When transferring to my comptuer, Will firewire only improve the speed of transfer or quality of the video?
Should I buy another DVD recorder that records directly from the camcorder?

other facts:
I am connecting my Sony to my computer via USB (not firewire), and have a 1.6ghz comptuer with Windows XP with a Pioneer dual DVD player.

The DVD is very grainy with waves in it...-- its horrible.

I suspect that somehow the video captured through USB is lower than it would have been through a firewire. What is the resolution of the video you captured? Full DVD quality is 720x480. Your capture should be equal to or greater than that.

I agree it's probably the connection you are using that is capturing much lower quality videos to your computer (via USB). Have you looked at the sticky post at the top of this forum -- there could be some good tips on the best approach to move forward...

You should be capturing from the DV tape using Firewire.
You probably need to change the output from usb to firewire in
the setup screen of the camcorder.
Then in VideoStudio select DV as the format in the capture screen.

Hope this helps,
