Audio lost when I split a video file

Post by dfan »

Hi Everyone,

I have been using Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 recently. Just learning the ropes, so forgive me if my question is stupid. I split a number of video files on a daily basis. This is what I do:

I take an Avi file that has a duration of about 30 minutes.

I drag and drop the video into the "video track" area in the program.

Then I use the little "slider" thing and drag it to 15 minutes and click on the "scissors" symbol. which results in making the video split into 2 parts.

I delete the first part on the "video track" are and then I click on "share"-->"create video file"-->"custom"-->I choose Avi .

The compression I choose is Xvid Mpeg-4, 24 Bit RGB, and the Audio Format is Mpeg Layer 3, 8 Bits, 11.025 Hz Mono

The resulting video does not have any sound :(

This does not happen if I delete the 2nd part and create the video file with the first 15 minutes only. This happens with almost all of my videos (all of them are avi).

What am I doing wrong?? Please help me!

This has happened to me when the audio of the rendered file is incompatible. However what you report seems to be some sort of bug since it works when retaining the first portion of the video, and not with the second portion. My suggestion is to report this as a bug, and then try workarounds by selecting different audio choices in your "shared video" creation. Also try split audio before cutting as another possible workaround

Thanks aljimenez,

I will report it as a bug. As far as splitting the video is concerned, am I doing it the right way?

Yes you are doing it the right way - what you are doing is a very acceptable way of doing it.

However as you have some problems it might be worth trying an alternative way of doing it.

put your file in the timeline just the same - now make sure you have 'project' selected under the preview window (instead of 'clip') - now under the preview window you will see the progress bar and hanging from under it are two orange handles - mouse over one of them (left or right) depending on which part you want to keep click and hold while sliding the mouse to move the orange handle towards the point where you want to split your video - you can check position via the digital clock under the right corner of the preview screen. As you do this an orange line will appear along the top of the timeline - this indicates the selected portion - do not cut or delete anything .

When you have the correct bit selected then go through the "create video file"-->"custom"--> Avi ." that you currently use BUT when you get to the create video file window where you choose a location and give a name look towards the bottom right corner and find a button labelled 'Options' - click on it and a dialogue box will open where you can choose "Entire Project" or "Preview Range" - select preview range - click OK and then continue as now .

This will produce a video file from whichever part of your original you require but without any actual cutting or deleting - to unset the preview range and return to normal manually slide the two orange handle to their outer ends when the orange line over the timeline will vanish
