Begginer PSP user asking for advice!

Post by cadudesun »

Hello,

First of all, many thanks to this community which members are giving me prompt answers and teaching the stepping stones to use PSP!!!

Until 48 hours ago I was PhotoScape user. But I needed something more powerful. I begin to use PSP X4 (after read this review http://photo-editing-software-review.toptenreviews.com/). Now I am looking for books and basic tutorials to improve my abilities.

a) I found at Amazon.com the book “PaintShop Photo Pro X3 for Photographers (by Ken McMahon)”. Although exist books about PSP X4 already, they aren’t available for Kindle. I live far away from USA to make fast purchase and I would like to begin my learning immediately. So, do you think using a book based in X3 version is useful to learn X4 version?

b) Does anyone has basic tutorials about PSP? May you make it available?

c) And just a curiosity. It seems to me that PSP is closer to “Photoshop” than to “Photoshop Elements”. Is it? In your opinion, is PSP easier to use than “Photoshop” or “Photoshop Elements”?

Thanks indeed in advance,
Cadu

Cadu - welcome to the users of PSP

Don't worry about the changes which were included in PSPX4
The PSPX3 book will be good to get you started - the author you mention, writes in an easy style for beginners
PSP is not the same as Photoshop or Elements - they are all different
Look in www.Youtube.com for on-line tutorials and another place is www.the-graphics-tablet.com
AND
this community will help too

on a) X3 and x4 are nearly identical, so no problems there.
b) if i can't do something i just google it.
c) i know the point you are making. PSP is priced similar to PSE but seems to have functionality close to the full PS
i agree psp is easier to use, and easier to learn. i have psp x4 and PS CS5 and preferentially use psp.

You got some great recommendations for tutorials. As to the question of PSP vs PS or PSE....My 2 cents is that PSP is generally much more powerful than PSE. PSE has a feature or two that I like, but if I could only have one PSP for sure. PS is a different beast..... extremely expensive and generally overkill unless you are doing major graphics etc. I think PSP is a very good choice as a powerful tool.
Adverts for Corel products when you close PSP don't bother me.

Many thanks for information and tips. The mentioned tutorials are great!

After 3 days, I am liking to use PSP each time more!

I found a PSP X4 review and a comparison among software that seems to have good information.

Hi Cadu, I have been using Corel for only a couple of years now and just love it. I am definitely no graphics expert but wanted to learn all I could about the program. As suggested already, there are several tutorials online that are very helpful to learn Corel. However, it was a pain to have both Corel and the internet open at the same time going back and forth reading the instructions and then doing it in Corel. So I printed out many of the tutorials and put them in a binder for reference. I found the training book "Picture Yourself Learning Corel PSPX2" by Diane Koers extremely helpful to me. I bought it at Barnes & Noble Bookstore, price was $35. It included a CD with graphics for learning. She has other Corel training books - PSPX2 Ultimate, PSPX4, etc. As she explains in the book, she is a teacher - and, in my opinion, one that explains things in a very understandable manner so it was relatively easy to follow along with the book in front of me when I was using Corel. Hope this is helpful to you.
