PSP X4 Complaints

Post by Tanaalethan »

I normally use X3 (used X2 until the "fix" that fixed the selection issue, then it was great), and it's been bugging me, every time I opened it, to go buy X4 so I thought "What the hell, might as well download the demo and give it a whirl." ... BIIIIIG mistake. Not only have you so aptly made everything bigger, taking up more space than ever before, you've made it near impossible to do a smooth workflow on multiple images. If you maximize the images, there's no quick way to UN-maximize it. I know this may come as a shock, but some of us do work in both maximized and windowed mode.. frequently. Tabs were a "good" idea, but not as an only-option over what people are used to. Put the little buttons back int he top right when maximized to close/window the open file again.

Another major complaint is the oh-so-prominent [Manage][Adjust][Edit] tabs at the top. I could really care less about the manage/adjust tabs. I REALLY want a way to just plain remove them. Completely. I have not, do not, and WILL NOT use them. Ever. Give me an option to get them the hell off my screen.

Complaint #3(ish, kinda 4 counting the everything is BIGGER complaint) - The biggest selling point on this product for me was the "dual screen support" advertized. All it does is give you the option to put the Manage and Edit/Adjust tabs on different screens than each other. This is COMPLETELY useless. I was hoping for something more along the lines of editor on one screen, TOOLS on the other.

Complaint #4(/5) - It automagically opens a picture from the My Pictures folder every time it's opened. Doesn't matter if I open it manually, or if I double-click a picture in my actual project folder.. It ALWAYS opens that one image. If I open it myself, it opens in manage then switches to Edit (I have edit set as default in options). If I open an image and it opens PSPX4, it does the same thing, then opens my selected image. Both cases, also opening the one image from My Pictures.

Until these are fixed, I am uninstalling this trash. It's a waste of drive space as it is currently. Going back to using X3.

Now that you have vented your spleen, I might just point out that though you fairly obviously thought it was directed at Corel, it was in fact not. This is a user to user web board, and apart from one or two Corel employees who visit occasionally on their own time to help out, Corel does not as far as we are aware read forum posts. At best, they read the wish list thread at the top of the forum, so you might want to post there. The rest of us are just users like you who volunteer their time to help out here.

I sympathise with Tanaalethan on the likes and dislikes of x4. However we are all in the same boat to some extent. We all have our preferances and would love to have a program that suits 'our' work flow and 'style'. The reality is though, that such a program simply doesn't exist. I only ever use Edit mode and those dam Manage and Adjust buttons take up good space that I could use for tool bars. However I'm sure there are users out there that love em. When I assessed upgrading from x3 to x4 I hit some real issues. I also 'trashed' x4 until I figured a way to work around the things that realy mattered to me. A few issues are genuine bugs but more often than not they are simply a matter of getting to know the program. Many issues are changes for the better, or the worse! Forums such as these are very important and most issues can be solved by other users. Many of my hickups were sorted out here and on other forums. Some of the bugs were addressed in SP1. My advice, to anyone, is to sit back and try to find away around the issues that matter to them. The alternative may be a very expensive trip to Adobe!!!!

My biggest single complaint against Corel is their lack of communication. We still don't know what was or wasn't addressed in SP1. Until a user 'discovers and reports' somehing we are kept in the dark. Complaints may well dissipate if Corel communicated what they are, or aren't, addressing. Until then complaints simply do more damage to Corels reputation.

Still, I'm more than happy with x4 and hope that Corel keeps finetunning it.
