VS X4 24fps rendering problem

Post by hdarizona »

I am hoping someone out there can help me with creating a nice clean render of a Canon G12 movie file. I record them at 1280X720 24fps and import them into VS X4 , I have imported the clip in the timeline which plays fine and everything.
I also can apply edits and effects. Its when I try to render the clip it seems a little jerky when finished. I have tried lots of different settings....MOV,AVi,MPG.....it just doesn't give me good video.
Everything works fine with a 30fps clip. It really is annoying to try and figure this out. If someone could give me some ideas I would appreciate it.
Does anyone have a custom setting i could try?
I even downloaded the FFDShow advice and couldn't get a good clip. I therefore got that off my system......Thanks Steve

Hi Steve

Welcome to the forums

Not all of the templates provided by Video Studio supports 24 fps.
Certainly the default templates don’t.
Changing/rendering this to 25 or 30 will add duplicate frames and cause some jerky video.

Use Settings --- Make Movie Templates Manager to create templates as near as the original.
I created one using QuickTme Mov using these settings, some templates require you to set the frame size by using the User Defined option.

QuickTime Movie Files
24 bits, 1280 x 720, 24 fps
Frame-based
MPEG 4 Visual
50% Quality, 24 Key Frame Rate
None, 8.000 KHz, 8 bits, Stereo

Some templates require you to set the frame size by using the User Defined option.

----------------------------------
You can also try Avi-Div X
-----------------------------------
If when using Share Create Video File—Same as First Clip is available, this will create the file using the original videos properties.

-------------------------------

You may be best in the future to use 25 or 29.97 (30) depending on Pal or NTSC

Trevor,
Thanks for the advice regarding my question. I tried the settings you gave me and still couldn't get a good render whether I created different templates etc.
The Quicktime movie at 50% wasn't that great along with avi. I guess the 24fps with this camera is throwing off something in Videostudio. Now also I am able to edit
and create with no rendering problems with a different editing software so go figure. All of my 29.97 or 30fps are fine with Videostudio X4. Maybe in the future they can work on better
24fps options. What do you think? Thanks for your help.......Steve

I do 24fps all the time, so that is not what is happening to you. I don't know what is happening, but it has nothing to do with 24fps. fddshow is an excellent renderer which I use, so not sure why you gave up on it so quickly. This stuff takes time to learn, it's not all plug&play... Al
