Hello. I have many photos of the busts/heads of statues that I would like to extract to follow the outline of the head/bust to then use to create a transparent .png file for use in graphics projects. Can PSP do this? How? I see that the default setting for a photograph is a single background layer; do you create a duplicate layer and then what?
Thank you for your help.

Which version of PSP are you using?
In X, X1, X2, X3, X4, and likely quite a few other versions there's the background eraser. Click the down triangle/arrow on the eraser tool and choose the background eraser. Levi Fiction has made a video tutorial http://www.youtube.com/user/LeviFiction ... RgHaVMxgEY

Version X3 and X4 have an object extractor option as well. It's not perfect but works well for some images.

Thank you.
Now I have another question: After I have manually removed the background there are still little pixel-bits all over the place that the erase tool didn't erase; is is possible to extract the object that is in the foreground and drop it into another file so that the background pixel remants are not part of the transparent .png file?

Yes, you can use the selection tool. The best way to do this is to use the option FREE HAND SELECTION > SELECTION TYPE (point-to-point or free hand) then just outline the object on the foreground that you want to transfer.
