Cannot play a project from mid way using the scrubber

Post by jparnold »

I have been creating a project for some time which contains a lot of video clips.
Every now and then I position the 'scrubber' mid way along and click on the 'play' button to check what the effect is at the place I am editing.
Today after adding some more video clips to the end of the project and editing them when I place the 'scrubber' where the clips are that I have been editing and click on 'play' to see the effect instead of VS 'paying' my video from the position the scrubber was placed at it moves the scrubber to the start of the project and plays from the beginning. It was not doing that yesterday (I have added some more clips to the end of the project since then and editing them).
This is VERY annoying as I cannot check to see what parts of the movie (project) look like without playing from the start of the project (30 minutes in length).
Has anyone had this problem and what is causing it?

I have just noticed an orange colored (or is it red) line displayed on the timeline. It seem that if I position the scrubber anywhere along that line it 'play's from where the scrubber is but if I position the scrubber to the right of where that line is displayed then it plays from the start of the project not from where the scrubber was placed.
I have never used that orange/red line and don't know how it got there and what it is used for and more importantly how to get rid of it (and hopefully fix my 'problem').
Hope you can help me.

FOUND THE ANSWER - sorry.
I noticed that dragging the scrubber fully to the right removed the orange/red line and my 'problem' was fixed.
Still do not know what this was all about and how to use the 'feature'

John - the 'red/orange line' indicates the selected portion of your project - it is activated by moving the little orange 'hands' (trim markers) under the progress line under the preview window - (it can also be set by pressing F3[in] or F4[out] ) this sets a mark in and mark out point so that you can play just a selected portion of your project - it is also very useful if you want to share just a portion of your project - if you set up selection with the orange line when you go to Share >> create videofile you will have the option to use only the selected portion - same with audio - so you can output just a section. It is reset by pulling those little orange 'hands' to the very ends of the progress bar - I guess that while scrubbing you must have accidentally moved one of the orange markers.
