Missing parts?

Post by JayG »

I just installed VS X4 and after reading through the forums here it seems I am missing a few things..

I see a content folder but never saw the content.exe some have referred to.

Also saw a reference in the training videos to 'Smart Sound' but that is missing as well.

I installed/uninstalled 3 times thinking maybe the install was corrupt but still not there, anyone have any ideas?

Thanks
BrianCee

Did you install from disc or download - if a download have you also downloaded the 'Content' and 'Bonus' files. - if from disc have you installed all the disc content.

If I remember correctly the 'Smartsound' files do not install until the first time you select 'Auto music' from inside VideoStudio

Installed from the disk. I thought I may have missed them on the install so I actually uninstalled then reinstalled, 3 times, just to be sure.

Are the downloads available somewhere? I also dont see any reference to the 'auto music' you mentioned.

Sorry for all the questions but thanks for the reply, this Corel thing is new to me.

Hi
Purchase by download and you get several files.
The disc may include the full version. Not sure as I used the download approach.

Viewing the library, how many clips do you see?
The image shows the complete installation program and contents installed

The image also shows several icons between the preview screen and the timelines, the right-hand icon opens the Auto Music panel, the first time will install some Smart Sound files

It looks as though you have not installed the 'Content' or 'Bonus' files - it's a long time since I installed from a disc - but I believe on the first splash screen that opens there is an option to 'View disc contents' (or similar) - use that to look for the files on the disc - or cancel the splash screen and use Windows Explorer to view the disc content - from my download - the Content is 472 Mb and the Bonus is 47 Mb - so you are looking for a couple of largish files. run those manually and see if it makes a difference to your content - to view changes you must close VideoStudio and re-open it and on loading the new content is added.

There was no option on the CD but I did open the Corel folder in Explorer. There is a 'Content' folder that has a pile of subfolders, but no way I can see to install them. Another post referenced a 'content.exe' but I dont have that. There is no 'bonus' folder or file as well. Maybe I just have a bad CD.

Thanks for trying to assist, it's appreciated.

I am not at all sure why your programme file is called Corel VideoStudio Essentials X4 - Mine (and I suspect Trevors) is clearly called Corel VideoStudio Pro X4 - I do not know what the essential programme is - is it a cut down version of some kind - maybe that is the root of the problem - where did you get the programme from ?

Incidentally the screen shot is from your Hard disc - what is on the actual programme CD ?

Hi

“Essentials”, well spotted Brian.

My installation like Brains is using these folders:-
C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4\Content

However you can ignore this “Content folder”, this is not the file I/we were referring to, but a separate downloaded Content.Exe at 472 Mb, again same as Brian
Also the other Bonus file, you can ignore for the time being.

I too do not know where the Essential version came from???????
Can you give some details where you purchased the program.
Click the Orange disc top right, then click the Cogwheels-About Video Studio should show the name and version number.

This is the CD, I just ran the content.msi and it looked like ti installed something but there is no change to VS that I can see. This came bundled with a capture device so maybe 'Essentials' is Corels way of saying 'SE".

Version: Corel VideoStudio Pro 14.0.1.13

Hi

Most software bundled with hardware are SE versions, usually cut down versions of the purchased product.

Video Studio X4 has two update patches
http://www.corel.com/corel/pages/index. ... id=1100002

If you are able to install these then it may allow the missing icons to show. I do not think SmartSound has been included????????
Some similar problems (missing icons) have affected Video Studio and Windows 7, not sure if it was X4 or the earlier versions. As far as I know the patches improved things.
------------------------
The version number does look familiar, but will update to 14.2.0.23 after the second patch.
-----------------------
The patches however are not going to install the “contents.exe” files.
----------------------
I am assuming this is the first corel/ulead software you have installed
Smart Sound Software, did the program install these, do you have a folder here:-
C:\Program Files\SmartSound Software?

And lastly what capture device was it?

Tried the patches but no go, got a message "The installed version could not be determined, setup will terminate."

No SmartSound anywhere I can find.

My suspicion now is that this is a 'LE' type version. I normally use Adobe Premiere but thought I would try this since it seems a lot simplier and for quick projects it might be faster.

I appreciate everyones assistance but I dont want to tie up your time with this, I'll just deal with it the way it is

Thanks again!

My version number after the second update is exactly as Trevors.

If you received your version of Videostudio as a free gift with something then I do not think you can have Smartsound - I believe you have to pay for a licence to use Smartsound which is included in the normal purchase price .

When you start VideoStudio do you get the "Corel Guide" pop up - or can you get it up by clicking on the orange button with an arrow and dots in the top right corner of VideoStudio - (just noticed from your screenshot - it appears black and white on yours - so perhaps it will not work) - - if so you can download some additional items for use in VS for free from there,

This missing stuff isnt that big an issue as I can work around those. The bigger problem is capturing, which is why I bought this in the first place.

I got a USB capture device as I dont have the room to install a card in my machine. When doing some tests, the video has a 'bar' at the bottom that you normally get when the 'tracking' isnt right. However I have tried 4 different vcr's and many different tapes and the bar is still there, so it isnt a tracking problem, it seems to be a hardware issue.

I think I'm about to return this whole package and try something else.

Thanks again for all the help!
