Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
Another problem, this one since installing Service Pack 1.
The histogram is missing from the histogram adjustment window. Everything is there and works but no histogram. How can you adjust it without histogram??
What is up with this? It works in x2.
Someone, please help, is it something I can fix or is it busted?
Thanks

I am assuming you mean this... This is from my X4 with SP1, and the histogram seems to work just fine...

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
Histogram Adjustment is working fine here as an "Adjustment Layer". The destructive version from the "Adjust > Brightness and Contrast" menu is a different story. It will not show a histogram if the dialog is called while an Adjustment Layer is selected in the Layers palette. If I select a layer that contains image data (like the background image layer) and then run the effect the histogram is shown as expected. Give that a try in both versions and see if there is a difference between the behavior. I no longer have X2 installed, so I cannot test for myself.

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
WilsonC, would the histogram show up when an adjustment layer is selected? Because it applies to the selected layer, and unless you are masking out some areas on the adjustment layer there is no variance in luminance or color at all. It's plain white.
The histogram does not show for me no matter which type or what layer I have selected.
Ken, there is supposed to be a histogram view inside the dialog

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
I just did another test applying the Histogram Adjustment on an Adjustment layer. If you paint in the adjustment layer mask with black set with various opacity then the Histogram Adjustment shows a histogram. This leads me to believe that there actually is a histogram there, but it is showing data for just the Adjustment Layer's mask....(or just the currently selected layer's histogram)

Yep, you are correct...the histogram will appear to be missing if an Adjustment Layer is selected when running the effect. That's what I thought could have been happening with the missing histogram, but it appears that is not the case!LeviFiction wrote:WilsonC, would the histogram show up when an adjustment layer is selected? Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
I've spent a little time restoring some old family photographs (ranging from the 1830's on), and I've come across the missing histogram! I believe it has to do with the selected workspace color. If you are using any color other than the default Dark Grey, then the histogram will disappear! I'll post a link to a couple screen captures taken with minutes of each other. Can anybody else duplicate this?

Yes, the histogram only appears when the workspace is set to Dark Gray.

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
I did a test on this and yes it appears that it only works on dark gray workspace. I have reported this and will update as soon as I get a response.
Thanks!
Thanks!

Thanks to all who responded. I reset workspace to dark grey and that fixed it. Too bad, I liked the lighter grey.

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
it constantly amazes me just how deeply rooted the work space colour seems to be in PSP X4, you'd think it would be trivial.

Add me to those who don't appreciate this oddball idiosyncrasy at all. Hopefully a SP2 will be issued to address it in the near term.

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
Further Histogram problems have been discovered! This applies to the Histogram Adjustment Layer. It does not remember user settings when the Low and High settings have been adjusted! Here's how:
1. Create Histogram Adjustment Layer on an image and set your Low and High sliders. (As seen in my first image from the link below. These are settings I would never use but make this problem easier to spot) Click ok to apply the Adjustment Layer. The image will update.
2. Double Click the Histogram Adjustment Layer to edit your settings. Your previous settings will now be changed! Without any user input the settings change, and the preview box will show this. Do not change any settings and click Ok. The new random settings are applied.
3. Repeat step 2, and the process goes on and on.....
I've done this test with the various controls, and it seems the PSP forgets your settings only when you use the Low and High settings. But further testing may reveal more.
Can anybody else recreate this strange behaviour?
The link to my screenshots as promised (the only time I changed the settings was in the first image...after that PSP takes control):

That is my Grandmother, by the way...

Re: Now Histogram Adjustment doesn't work PSPx4
I don't have a problem with the Histogram Adjustment Layer, it works fine here, when I double-click on the layer the settings are still there.
The same with the other Adjustment Layers.
