Y'all:
Can anyone tell me how to manage files and projects in VideoStudio X4 properly? When I create a new project, all the old libraries pop up --if I archive the files, it goes through and attempts to relink all the older project files, forcing me to sit there and hit "don't relink" for every file (which involves hundreds of files). Now suppose I go through all of this, start with clean libraries, and build a new project --but a month later, I need to open an old project and make some tweaks to it. Since the libraries are empty, when I go to open the old project, it wants to relink all the files again.
This total lack of file and project management is really maddening --couldn't the libraries be included as part of the project? I understand the original files can't be, but at least include a library collection in with the project information, so you don't end up unable to archive older material you're not currently using (forever), unless you want to risk blowing up any possibility of ever opening that project again (forever).
Or is there some way to create a project with a clean set of libraries, and then reload a set of libraries later on?

Re: Projct/File Management
A second problem I have in this space is that I often keep entire projects off my primary computer --on a NAS, or some other network device. Since I'm working on a laptop, I don't always have access to the files in a particular project --but I might want to work on a different project, or move a project onto a portable device so I can work on it while I'm on the road. This all seems to create a complete mess from VS' perspective --it doesn't seem to like to have files moved from one location to another, nor does it seem to know how to handle not being able to see certain files right now, and then be able to access them later.
Is there any way to manage this better within VS X4? Am I missing some huge chunk of this software that helps deal with moving files, or files that are inaccessible right now, but might be accessible later?

Hi
Wow a lot of confusion going on here……..
Think of the library as a temporary place to hold thumbnails of your files on the hard drive.
The clips in the library and on the hard drive are virtual clips representing the files on the hard drive.
They are linked to the files locations, move the files on the hard drive, rename them and Video Studio will lose their location and request a Re-Link.
The clips will show as Black and White, if you are seeing a lot of these then you need to better manage your files.
Cleaning the library.
To manually remove multiple clips, click the first clip, cancel the re-link and the clip will remain selected.
Click the last clip whilst holding the Shift key will select all clips. Hit the delete button.
Settings -- Library Manager will allow you to reset the library, this will return the library to its default state.
You also have the option to export the library, this saves a copy for future use.
------------------------------------------
We import or capture video files to our hard drives, for each movie I make I save my files to a separate folder, one folder for each project. This is just good housekeeping when it comes to managing the computers files. This folder being designated as the working folder for a particular project.
The video files are inserted as virtual clips to the timeline or library, where we edit our projects.
Smart Package
There is an option to create a Smart Package, this copies all files used in a particular project and saves them within a single folder, ideal if you are moving the entire project to another PC.
