Gold Text

I can't figure how to make Shiny gold text. I've tried the hot wax coating 3x color set to light yellow however it looks nothing like gold. Are there settings to hot wax coating or is there another way to make metallic gold or shiny silver.

For gold, write the text in orange (experiment with different colours) .

Selections>From Vector Object.
Selections>Promote Selection to Layer.
(Doing it this way, you keep the Vector active if you want to use it again, but of course you need a Raster Layer to apply the effects to, ie the best of both worlds)

then:
Effects>3D Effects>Inner Bevel, with the attached settings:

PS: Use a grey colour for the text to make it silver:

I find most of your older tutorials do work well. All depends on the particular type of gold effect you're going for. The one you mention reminds me of this tutorial

http://www.sumrallworks.com/freebies/bu ... ials/gold/

Which still works, just tried it myself. Actually now that I think about it, every version of gold text I'm familiar with uses Hot Wax Coating.

This one that tries to get the shiner polished gold effect but also uses Hot Wax Coating option

http://www.grafx-design.com/13psp.html

This page demonstrates more than just gold

http://mardiweb.com/web/texteffect5/texteffect5.htm

And then you have Joelle gave you.

All three of those tutorials bring back memories, Levi. I remember them all from the "olden days" and I used them back when I was teaching a PSP class at the local computer club. It's amazing that they're still online. Most of the old tutorial sites have disappeared.

A nice plugin for making gold text is Super Blade Pro but it's not free.

Hi I was hunting around for a method/plugin for making shiny gold, non of the links above work any more. One say page can't be found and the other two say that they take too long to load. I really do want to make nice shiny gold, one that isn't beveled so heavy that it turns my edges black or dark grey. I have seen some beautiful gold text and objects all over the net but no tutorials that will teach me. I have tried to use the gold gradients to make shiny gold letters but due to the way they are made (light streak in middle and blending out to darker edges), they don't work well with anything that is scripted or small. I have tried every trick I know to get them to look like real gold but I am not getting the look i want. I am using PaintShop Pro 2020. Any help or suggestions would be very much appreciated. Thank you
Marilyn

Hello Marylin,

Could you shows us a few examples of what you are after (maybe a link or two of those you mentioned you have seen). It would help us help you :)

In general, a little bevel is usually a good thing for that kind of effect. Btw, you can modify the existed gradients and add them as new gradient presets.

There are many ways to achieve what you are after. For me, one of the quickest ways to get nice results for text like that, is by using real gold textures to mask your text (google is always our friend), then add a couple of effects on the text via its Layer Properties (bevel, shadow, etc), and use Blend Ranges to blend the texture with the text in a more profound way.

Here is a video making rusty text instead, using the exact same technique: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TA7JF6u9HN8&t=198s (the link points at the specific part of the video that shows what we are talking about here). You can use a gold texture instead of a rusty one. It could probably be a good idea to watch the rest of the video too, when you get the chance. Before that part I linked to, it shows a different effect with clouds, where it goes much slower when stylizing the text.

But please show us some examples of what you are after exactly.

EDIT:
Is something like that what you are after? I used a golden texture with the steps I mentioned above (you probably need to click on the picture to enlarge it), and obviously I also used a wooden texture for the background.

I'm not sure if you are still around Marylin,

but I just noticed I hadn't listed my settings for the gold text above. For completeness sake, and hoping that it may help more members, here they are:

Thank you so much migf1 for taking time to help me with my search for gold. I have clicked the link and saved it for watching the first chance I have a moment to spare. I have to care for my very ill husband, his cats, and all that goes with someone that is very ill. I will put a couple of screenshots of the type of gold I am looking to find. I tried to make my own gradients and failed miserably and was hoping that someone had a shiny gradient to spare...LOL it's not that I am lazy, it's just being busy that stops me from passionately pursuing tutorials to make gold. I know I am not the only busy old person, and I applaud all who are crazy busy and still finds time and energy to pursue their passions. But for me, not only is time rare and precious so is energy.
I apologize for not being here sooner and will try like heck to get back asap. Hubby can't drive any more so I have to take him every where. I am always teasing saying I should just camp out in the car...haha
Thank you
Marilyn

Hello, I am sorry I have been MIA but hubby went through some harrowing times, his heart is just getting tired and what can one do for that? No answer required I am adjusting to the fact he won't be getting well. Thank you for the links I made note of them and will try to get to them soon. Thank you for all your help.
