Hey,
Bought VS X4 last week cause I had problems with X3... And now I really wonder why the hell I bought X4... cause I keep having the same problems.
I've tried calling Corel today and I can only get support if I buy a support card. I just got this program and I would like some purchase support or something. Cause I have this program since Saturday.
Anyhow... It never crashes, only with rendering. First it didn't crash if I rendered it in a lower resolution, but I want the highest resolution, I'm on art school and I need to show it in big on a screen.
Anyhow, with the somewhat lower resolution it didn't crash, but now it also crashes on the lower resolution.
What can I do about it?
I heard people having the problem with X3, like I had, and they had to remove all apple products. So I did, and trying it now... but maybe someone has other options.
Greets,

Re: VS X4 crashes while rendering highest MPEG HD
Sorry, but you haven't really provided enough information for a sensible answer. All we really know is that your computer crashes "while rendering highest MPEG HD". OK, but what kind of MPEG are you trying to render: mpeg-2 (which can be either HDV or Blu-Ray) or mpeg-4 AVCHD; or mpeg-4 HD which doesn't necessarily use the H.264 codec?
And are you trying to render from the same format back to the same format; or are you trying to render one format into another format? Right click on a video clip in the VS timeline, please, and copy ALL its Properties here.
What did the video come from: make and model of camcorder or other device?
If your camcorder is, for instance, a very recent AVCHD model, it is likely to film in true progressive format: 1920 x 1080p with a frame speed of 50 (PAL) or 60 (NTSC) full frames per second; and with a bitrate of 24 or even 27 Mbps. If so, then the problem is that Video Studio -- be it X3 or X4 or earlier versions -- cannot handle such video. I brought this problem to Corel's problem several times during the beta testing process for X4, but they said at the time that the camcorders were new and that the international Blu-Ray standard was then only 1280 x 720p at 50/60 fps.

Re: VS X4 crashes while rendering highest MPEG HD
I couldn't help noticing that this is a newer, relatively powerful, laptop with possible Intel Core i7 Sandy Bridge motherboard CPU/GPU to NVidea GPU switching issues. Since it has the NVidea graphics, it is possible that it supports monitor/TV output in excess of 720P. However, most "non-gaming" laptops seem to be limited 720P output, even if they have 17 inch display screens with 900x1440 resolution. There are other buzz word(s) involved: NVidea Optimus, which puportedly permits power management switching back and forth between Intel and NVidea GPUs.
Perhaps the OP can clarify whether this laptop has a 1080x1920 screen display with price premium full blown gaming type support?
