Where should I look for reported bugs to avoid repeating known problems?

I did look around but did not find such a list of know problems ...

The idea is to search through and discuss issues in other threads. Then if no solution is found this thread becomes the home of apparent bugs.

Comment: Unbelievable bad programming.
Actually this happens even if you just flick back and forth between the Manage and Edit tabs. You don't have to switch to thumbnail mode. Awful!

It is not possible to switch between Edit and Manage modes without closing any images you have open for editing. The general feeling seems to be that this is not a problem as the Organizer (File manager) is available in Edit mode anyway so there is no need to go to the Manage tab. However I would disagree with this as some of my folders contain large numbers of images and it is much easier to browse through them using Manager in thumbnail mode as you can see far more images at once than with the Organizer in Edit mode. Also I find that Organizer gets in the way in Edit mode and would much prefer to switch back and forth to the Manager as was possible in X3.

Even if this problem does not affect everyone it is still difficult to understand why Corel would insist that images in the Editor are closed before switching to Manage mode. I cannot personally think of one reason why this would be preferable.

PSPX4, 14.0.0.332

Image -> Resize:
  • 1. change to higher ppi
    2. File - Save: result fine and can be confirmed in other photo editing programs
    3. Re-open in PSPX4, it's again shown as 72ppi
PSPX4, 14.1.0.5, SP1:
Do 1. to 3. in PSPX4 SP 1 and save as JPG
Result: it works fine.
JPGs from cameras or photo editing programs like Photoshop are still opened with 72ppi.
Other formats like PNG and TIFF seem to be fine.
Already addressed to the DevTeam. No further bug report required.
Actually I've reported a bug with PNG file format 6 years in a row with nothing accomplished, and it's easily reproduceable:
1. Open any existing PNG file.
2. Resize it, changing ppcm to ppi. Leave it at 100% if you wish.
3. Save the file and close it.
4. Open the file. The dimensions are back to ppcm.

Default resolution in preferences is set to 192 ppi.
PNG file format is the only one that can't retain the ppi setting and I can't imagine this would be difficult to address.
I write software. If you let me have the section of the code that saves PNG files I can likely have the answer for you in a few minutes.

I've noticed these things:

1) Zooming doesn't work as expected. This includes both mousewheel zoom and the zoom tool.

2) All the adjustment layer dialogs appear to be cut off from the right side, though all the controls in them are still useable. Resizing the dialog has no effect. Easiest to notice with the Levels adjustment layer. The adjustments launched from the Adjust menu don't have this issue.

3) Adjustment layers do something even with all properties at 0. Example: Make an image with 128 128 128 color, then add a Brightness/Contrast adjustment layer.. and check the color of the image and you'll notice it's 127 127 127.

4) The number value in the Opacity slider in the layer panel goes partially outside of the slider area when the number value is below 80 (at that point it goes to the other side of the arrow/line thing).

5) There are some useless Undo/Redo actions appearing. Example: I have image with a dozen layers, I use blur on one layer, I select another layer and press repeat.. instead of repeating the blur on the layer, it repeats the layer selecting! Now why would I want to repeat that action?

6) Offset effect doesn't work properly with positive Horizontal offset and negative Vertical offset. Some pixels disappear and some are duplicated. Easy to notice by making a grid with equal sized squares and then offset it a few times with values that are the size of one square in the grid and Edge mode Wrap. Eventually you'll notice that the squares are no longer equal sized. Negative Horizontal offset and positive Vertical offset values work fine.

7) Sometimes when I've tried to save a file without the file type extension typed in the filename, it doesn't save the file, because it's not a valid file type extension.. but sometimes it does save it. I suspect it's got something to do with saving the file with one type, then saving it again with a different type and different name.

Some of these bugs have existed before X4. I think the bug number 6 has existed already in version 8. Bugs number 3 and 4 I noticed with X3. Bugs number 1, 2 and 4 may have something to do with having a 16:9 monitor, at least I didn't notice number 4 with my earlier 16:10 monitor.

I put in a support ticket on this issue, and it was finally "sent to Resource and Development for further investigation" after a couple of weeks of back and forth with the tech telling me to reset my workspace and reinstall the program, and me telling him repeatedly to go look at older versions of PSP and see how this function is supposed to work.

PSP w/Wacom tablet Fix.

For anyone trying to get PSP_X4 to recognize pressure sensitivity on your Wacom Graphire-4.

On my Win-7 (64bit) using PSPx4 with Wacom Graphire-4, It seems to work best with Driver 5.24-6 RC for Windows 7, Vista (32 and 64 bit) and XP.

Here is the Wacom download-> ftp://ftp.wacom-europe.com/pub/WINDOWS/ ... -6_int.exe

I find that the tools look best with File->Preferences->General Program Preferences->Display and Caching-> (deselect) Show brush outlines...

I have a small addition to the 4) The number value in the Opacity slider in the layer panel goes partially outside of the slider area when the number value is below 80 (at that point it goes to the other side of the arrow/line thing).

Windows 7 seems to default text, icon, etc sizes to 125%. When that setting is decreased to 100%, the number value is no longer outside the slider area. Though it still at the very edge of the slider area. Perhaps solution could be to make the slider area wider or move the number a bit to the left. Shouldn't the number 100 be centered instead of the number 1 in it start from the center?

Also I'm seeing a horizontal scroll bar at the bottom of the layer panel when there's nothing that would actually need scrolling. This happens if I have the right side of the layer panel fit to the elements it has. I have to make that part about 2 times wider than it needs to be to remove the scroll bar.

@ JCA: This has been escalated a few months ago, shortly before SP 1 came out.

New issue logged as bug: Alpha channel gets corrupted when saving as TGA

I didn't get a chance to read through the pages of post to see if this is a reported bug or not, so sorry if it is a repeat.

There is a bug in the Text tool where the object box (don't know that correct name of it) is clamped incorrectly to the vector text (introduced in X3 if I remember correctly). This greatly messes up all the alignment tools; if you center your text, it is not actually centered (see image below).
Image
To recreate this:
1. Create a new image with a vector layer.
2. Add vector text via Text tool.
3. Apply changes.
4. Use Object Selection Tool to select the text (clearly will show a empty gap to the right of the text).
5. In the "position on canvas" box click center. The text will not align center.

Another problem it has is if you layer text that have differences strokes amounts. The text will not match up correctly when aligned (see image below).
Image
To recreate this:
1. Create a new image with a vector layer.
2. Add vector text via Text tool.
3. Apply changes.
4. Copy and paste text as a vector.
5. Edit the stroke width of the lower level text.
6. Use Object Selection Tool to select both text objects.
7. In the "position on canvas" box click center. The text will not align center nor with each other.

----------------------------------------------------------

Another bug I have found is the crop tool menu. Instead of being attached to the upper tool bar it is attached to the image; on small images it doesn't show up (see image below).
Image
To recreate this:
1. Create a new image 100x100 pixels.
2. Click the crop tool. No tool bar.

If anyone knows how to fix these or a good work around, please let me know.

@zenxtang

The text tool problem has been logged as bug in X3 and X4, but can't be solved in X4 unfortunately.

The crop tool behaviour isn't a bug. In the smaller image, your document is just as small as the image itself with no workspace. Please make it wider as in my screenshot

After X4 was installed I found clicking the paintbrush tool caused it to crash. I uninstalled the program, used the Corel cleanup tool to make sure it was completely removed. Ran the CCleaner to remove left in registry entries. Rebooted and now it won't instal saying another program is already installed. Any ideas.
+++++++
Trouble fixed. First the new brushes are sensitive if you keep adding brushes as new versions of PSP comes out. The old red eye brush caused the crash when the brush ICON was selected.

The Corel PSPX4 cleanup tool didn't do it's job, so the registry had to be manually cleaned. That then allowed a new install.

Real pita but better than going to CS5..
