@Arnout

F2 is an unused command which is not set in the program to work. Generally, to hide/show a palette, press for example F8 for layers.

Hi all.
I'm new here but I've been using PSP for more than 10 years.
Anyway, I've got a rather huge problem with the "object selection tool" not selecting anything from any image of mine. While in previous versions I could just click on a (vector) object on the canvas and have it selected, with X4 (same with SP1) clicking on the canvas selects nothing. I have to go to the layers palette in order to select *anything*.
Does anybody else have this problem? I've had it both on my main PC (spec to the right) and on my laptop, Win7 32bit, Core i7 etc.
By the way, it's the same with the pick tool; doesn't pick diddly.
Cheers!

I don't have that problem.
I use X4 and Windows 7.
I draw the vector (shape or whatever), then click Apply on the toolbar.
K on the keyboard will activate the Pick Tool.
Everything works.

I see your point. I could indeed not find the command "F2 Show\Hide Palettes" anywhere else than in "Unused commands".
I plucked it from there and placed it on a toolbar.
And it does work however... but, am i to understand that these "unused commands" are commands that are not supported in any way?

Should I perhaps place my previous post under "feature wishlist" instead of "bug reports"?

Thanks a bunch,

@ skagon
Please report issues like yours at first in a general topic to make sure that you don't report a personal bug :) If a reset with Shift key doesn't solve, the reason might be "ram: 16GB". Please keep in mind that PSP is a 32bit program and it's tested until 8 GB RAM. A Windows with so much RAM works definitely different.
Sometimes, less is more.

@ Arnaut: Yes, you are right, but keep in mind that F2 is a very important key for Windows and other programs. Therefore, I wouldn't use it in PSP. Please try Auto-Hide for the palettes. It works much smoother compare to previous versions.

Corel should really change the name of these "unused commands" to hidden commands, because people who still use them have to dig them out of the hidden places in order to continue to use them. Who ever thought nobody used them any more?

PsP X4 has too many bugs of all kind:

The floating Organizer pane with this automatic enlargement of images instead - like PsP X2 - showing more images on a larger pane is plain stupid. (I work with 2 or 3 monitors synchronously.
The "Cascading" bug is painful annoying: If you have 20 images open in Cascading style and work with the crop tool you have to close the crop tool every time, because if you have it open and hit on the blue bar of another image, all images change into Tabbed mode again.
The palettes do not dock as they should in a column on the right or left side of the screen, but are docking inseveral funny manners which are not useful.
If you have fixed all your nice little icons icons in the Edit pane properly and then change from the edit pane to the Photo Blend pane, . . . never do it, because all your settings are gone.
Never touch the Reset Preferences. You will experience sudden no-fun changes.
The Help Program is a drag.
Until these bugs are not fixed, PsP X4 isn't worth any money for pro's.

The only thing good is that finally in PsP X4 Corel seems to have found out that there is something like Unicode. You can put text on images in all languages without having to restart your computer all the time with a different system locale settings to get the extended characters right in PsP.

I have no issues with docking my pallets on the right side. Sure to begin with they seemed to have a mind of their own but now they act as I expect them to. Maybe it's something in the way you have them set up.

Not sure if this can be called a bug if it's not affecting everyone.

A bug is a piece of code or logic that results in unintended results. So there are technically good and bad bugs. But bugs that only effect certain users because of a flawed area interacting with something specific in the user's system can be considered a bug.

@timmendorf
You only want to complain; could you please take out your comment and open a new separate topic?
Thank you for your understanding.

I would like to continue "PSPx4 Bugs and fixes" with real bugs and very short descriptions as kind of list for PSPX4 users.
If somebody wants to report a bug, please make sure that you have talked about this with other members in this forum and they have confirmed your finding/bug. Please don't use this topic to ask if a certain behaviour in your PSP version might be a bug, please create an own topic and ask other forum members.

A bug is a behaviour that happens
- either on all machines or on all machines which have certain hardware (processor, graphic card) and software (OS, other programs) in common
- generally in a program and can be reproduced by everyone
- in context with other software
- when going a certain way in a program and an error appears. This can be a message, a crash or an unexpected result.
- An unexpected result is when for example, I use the colour green but I get blue instead.

@ Simone Corel UK:

You are partly correct. I am complaining, but:
I am reporting five bugs, 3 of them are definitely confirmed by Corel support as known issues to be fixed.

If your thread is not just a Corel driven try to water down the fact that Corel brought out again a totally buggy program to make fast money before Xmas, you should accept postings like mine.
Stay inspired

May I comment?

I started this thread in an attempt to assist Corel, and us users, by 'consolidating' 'bugs' into just one thread. (I didn't want to read through every thread 'in case' there was someting of interest). The idea being other threads were to be use to discuss issues and from their, if required, post apparent bugs and issues on this thread.
By doing this both Corel, and us users, won't have to wade through numerous discussions in order consider what actions, if any, to take.

I beleieve it's in all of our interests to keep comments on this thread to a minimum and post on other threads initially to begin with leaving this thread for more concise postings.

Thanks.

Just hit and hold Shift every time before you click on an image in Text mode, or right-click for "Edit Text" for corrections, and you'll have this beautiful little textbox back!
Have fun
