Win7 thumbnail viewing

Post by karebai »

Hi,

Running Win7 HP 64 bit, PSPX4 SP1- cannot view psp thumbnails in windows explorer. I've downloaded thumbnail handler from Bot Productions, but when I try to install it, Win7 tells me " this installation package is for Windows XP or newer, x64 edition. Go to the product's web site and look for a version for your operating system."

Same thing happens if I try the 32 bit version ...

Anyone know of a fix/work around ? Oh, I've tried the folder view, never show icon trick, doesn't work ...

PSP thumbnail are showing just fine on my end without me installing any thumbnail handler. Here are somethings you may want to check.

Is PSP X4 setup as the default photo editor on your computer or do you have more than one version of PSP installed on the computer?

You may also want to check this old KB http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... s-Explorer

I have windows 7 32-bit and don 't need any thing to view psp files in windows explorer. However, on my windows 7 64-bit it requires the 64 bit version of PSP Thumbnail Handler.

be sure to get the one that says "x64 edition"...I installed that one and it worked perfectly.

I don't have that thumbnail handler on my 64 bit computer and I can see the thumbnails. It does take time for the folder to propagate the thumbnails though the first time. I suspect it's due to PSP being a 32 bit program running on a 64 bit computer. I'm just theorizing on this but I think that the Operating System tries to make thumbnails with all of its 64 bit codecs before trying to make them with its 32 bit codecs. At any rate, if you're patient the thumbnails should majikly appear eventually.

CR2 files (Canon Raw files) were the same way. First look at a folder shows a common icon, but after a while the files turn into actual thumbnails one by one. That is until Microsoft came out with a 64 bit codec pack for cameras.
