Pasting from Clipboard problem (PSP-X4-SP1)

Post by marty2010 »

Hello,
Pasting from Clipboard problem.

Did a screenshot JPG
Right clicked it and copied it (Win7-64 clipboard).

Started PSPX4 SP1.
Cannot paste .. paste options greyed out.

So I drag/drop the jpg into X4-SP1 ... works ok.
Also, opening the file in X4-SP1 works ok.

Tried another Copy/paste with another app .. PaintDotNet.
Pasted from Win7-64 clipboard ok.

Plug Ins and tablet installed.

There are 4 ways to pasta data from windows clipboad.

1. Paste as New Image - CTRL + SHIFT + V or SHIFT + INSERT
2. Paste as New Layer - CTRL + L, CTRL + V
3. Paste as New Selection - CTRL + E
4. Paste as New Transparent Selection - CTRL + SHIFT + E.

and just like what JStanley mention, you can only use the paste function on the EDIT mode/tab.

Abiel,
Thank you for the reply.

"Did a screenshot JPG
Right clicked it and copied it (Win7-64 clipboard)."

Then the four Paste Methods you mentioned are in my "Edit" menu but all four are greyed out (not available).

JStanley,

I have to check again.

Tested again just now.
I have a Test.JPG (screenshot) on my desktop.

Right clicked it and copied it (Win7-64 clipboard).

Started PSPX4 SP1.
Cannot paste .. paste options greyed out.

Started .. PaintDotNet.
Pasted into PaintDotNet ok.

I cannot find this on my PC yet (look at the contents of your clipboard (clipbrd.exe) )

When I right click Test.jpg on my desktop ... or from any where else on my hard drive and select COPY ... well, I do not have a clue where it goes ... or in what form(s) it exists.

I assume it goes to the Windows clipboard and is made available to all applications (paste).

"Perhaps Paint.NET is coded better, in this respect..."

OK, so PSPX4 is working properly.

Thanks for the information on how Copy / Paste works ... with various applications.

Thanks for taking time to look into it and providing the technical "workings" of the Copy function.

"When you copy to the Windows clipboard, it doesn't create an actual file, so much as it copies information to memory, and the information is dependent upon the program from whence the information was copied."

Right!
I got a grip on it now! (KINDA).
But having a technical explanation always makes me feel better even if I do not completely understand the inner workings.

So, like I originally said (kinda) ... if you cannot copy/paste paste it then try "Open With" instead ... it has always worked.

JStanley .. thanks for your help, much appreciated.

P.S.
I will just take your word on this bit:
Unlike XP, the clipboard cannot be viewed in Windows 7. You need a copy of clipbrd.exe from an XP computer
