PaintShop X4 layer style

Anyone know how to use X4 layer style? It seems so slow, I'd like to know how you guys survive with it? What is your use case mostly? I can have it with vector object/text, ok, but sometimes, it is slow with raster layer. Any idea?

If I use layer styles, which I find them only mildly useful, Layer Styles should be used for final product only. If you have to use them before you come to the end of the project turn them off before doing any major editing.

I fully admit their systems could be faster, especially where rasters are concerned, but even so you're talking about effects that are drawn dynamically around the graphics of a layer.
