I don't understand two things about the workspace tabs:
First, if I right click on a file in a file list like Windows Explorer and select "Open in PSPX4", the file opens in the X4 Edit workspace but disappears if I then click on the Adjust tab. Click back on the Edit tab and it is still gone. But if I click on a file in the X4 Organizer the image appears in all three workspaces, Manage, Adjust, and Edit. In X3 I could toggle back and forth between Express Lab and Full editor and the image would appear in both, no matter if it was opened through Explorer or from Organizer. Apparently X4 only want users to open files from its own organizer?
Second, I don't understand why after making edits to an image in one workspace, like Adjust, I cannot then switch to the Edit tab and make further edits without having to first save the changes made in Adjust. If I happen to go back and forth a few times making edits in two workspaces and am forced to save the file each time, don't these multiple file saves degrade jpeg files due to compounded compression? If so I would rather save only once at the end of all edits. Or am I not understanding the meaning of "save" in this context (a likely possibility). And part B, after making an edit and clicking on a different tab, why am I prompted to save when I have Autosave enabled?
PSPX4 - Why the need to save when changing tabs?

Re: PSPX4 - Why the need to save when changing tabs?
1) Switching between the tabs tends to open the currently selected image in the organizer. The Organizer is available in all three modes so when switching between the modes it will open the same image between them giving the illusion of the image moving smoothly from Mange to Adjust to Edit. In fact in both Adjust and Edit mode the images are being closed as you move between them.
This was complained about but I guess the figuring was that since the Organizer is now available in all modes there is no need to switch back and forth and they completely ignored the Adjust to Edit workflow that some developed in X3.
2) Save as PSPImage or other such file format instead of JPEG when you plan on doing continuous editing. Use JPEG only for the final product if you have to. Lossless formats still allow you to compress enough to keep the size down without losing any quality. And PSPImage is the best format for saving works in progress.
Abiel points this out in the following topic

He also points to a tutorial for keeping quality in JPEG with a compression of 0 or lossless encoding

3) Auto-save saves periodically, not as you switch between modes.

Re: PSPX4 - Why the need to save when changing tabs?
Thanks for your help. Still not clear on the saving concept. You say to save as pspimage instead of jpeg if doing continuous editing, however if I happen to switch to a different tab I get a pop-up window that asks me to Save or cancel but there is no option to select a specific file format for saving. How can I set the program to save in a specific file type when changing tabs?
And on your point 3, you state that Auto-save saves periodically, not when switching tabs. However the Corel help topic on Auto-save reads: "Corel PaintShop Pro lets you automatically save your work as you move between tasks. For example, if you make some edits in the Adjust workspace, and switch to another photo or workspace, your changes will be applied automatically." Apparently this help topic is in error?
Thanks again for your help.

Save to a different format before making edits.
Hm, guess Auto-save is supposed to have changed since I last used it. I've gotten into the habit of saving multiple versions of my files myself so I never use Auto-Save. And if it was intended to do so...then they have a bug.
