proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
Hi all, being way behind the tiime and still using SD video I was wondering if anyone has used proDAD Mercalli SE with SD video and if so what reults they got. With the special on at the moment I would consider bying although I was very put out when the Ultimate version came out a couple of months after buying Pro X4. I suppose X5 may be on the way but it may not have these specials included.

Yes, I've just launched another new DVD and some of the footage was helped with a little adjustment using Prodad. You can use it on SD, or as I did, use it on the HD clips, and then save to HDV for editing, before finally being made into high quality SD for professional DVD production. VSX4 is well worth buying, because the Prodad costs more if purchased seperately.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
I have started using Mercalli in VSPX4 Ultimate and like what I see in the preview window. However, when I burn a DVD, the "Have to replay to analyze" (or some similar wording) shows up on the final DVD and the video image is grayed. When I go back to the video clip with Mercalli on it, when I bring it up, it doesn't think that it needs to be rerun, and I can't force it. I'm imaging that when running the analysis in the editor that the result is stored. However, I supposed that come re-rendering time at burn time (HD .mov to SD DVD) that it would just redo any re-analysis for the clip during the burn process. Well, it doesn't seem to be doing this. What am I missing? New VSPX4 user, by-the-way. Thanks.

To see if Mercalli needs to analyze your clip, make sure you select "Project" and not the "Clip" option that is just below the preview window. When in "Clip" view, the message that Mercalli needs to analyze won't be displayed.
If you see the message that analysis needs to be performed, go to the Attribute options tab, select the Mercalli filter, click "Customize Filter" button, and then click the "analyze" button again.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
I tried what you suggested, but nowhere/nohow will the clip on the DVD with the "needs analysis" show again for the clip in VSPX4. This has now happened on both DVD and BR burning. There must be something wrong with my workflow. I expect to put the Mercalli filter on the clip once, run the analysis once, then forget about it. This isn't working for me. I haven't needed to enable smart proxy. And I'm using HW acceleration for encode and decode. Do I go to Corel or Mercalli with this problem?

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
After you ran the analysis on the clip, did you do any kind of editing? If you split the clip afterwards, for example, I believe you need to run the analysis again on each part.
I would try to get help from Corel.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
New info. When I render my project to a file, the Mercalli clip is copacetic. It appears that the render direct to DVD or BR path is broken (from my perspective). Does Corel monitor this forum for bug reports? And yes, I think I'll create deshaken clips before including them into my VSPX4 projects from here on out. Thanks!

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
'TheListener' - Please re-read my earlier post. You cannot render the Prodad adjusted video clip direct to DVD from the timeline unless you have rendered it into a new file first.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
GT,
Right. I got the part about your workflow rendering to a file first. But I didn't understand you to say that going direct to disk was well understood to not work. If it is well understood, I still don't know how one would know that. If not, I hope someone would fix this as a bug, or figure out how to communicate this limitation to the user more clearly. Thanks!

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
After trying the proDaD plugin in X3 (with te red cross..) I bought VSX4 Ultimate (download version) and after uninstalling my proDaD 2.0 trial version I installed VSX4 Ultimate +bonus +SP2, because it should include proDaD SE. But no proDaD in the FX library. Where can I find proDad SE in VSX4 Ultimate?

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
TheListener:
In VideoStudio if you apply Mercalli to a video clip that is progressive, then you need to share to a progressive format. If instead you share to a video format that is interlaced (TFF/BFF) such as DV or DVD-MPEG-2, then the message will appear on your shared clip.
Going from interlaced to progressive doesn't seem to be a problem, yet. I say "yet" because I haven't tried every possible combination. If you have an interlaced clip such as DV-AVI and stabilize it with Mercalli, you can share to either progressive or interlaced video formats without the message appearing.
See if you find the same thing.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
I've gone from 1920x1080p h.264 source, to Blu-Ray H.264 (1020x1080p) .m2t files, to using these in Blu-Ray disc burning and DVD disc burning, to good result. None of the Mercalli filters show the "re-run analysis" overlay. But I haven't gone to an interlaced format, so I can neither confirm nor deny your observation about the Mercalli progressive to interlaced path being problematic.

Re: proDAD Mercalli SE SD video?
I have followed a few threads to get to here, trying to get rid of the message in my rendered video file telling me about the need to reanalyze the clip. I started with a MOV file which I can only assume is progressive [‘properties did not mention progressive or interlaced ‘] and did solve the problem by rendering the ‘mercalli-ised’ clip to a HDV format with a ‘p’ at the end.
Further back in the thread [or was it another] it mentioned clicking on ‘customize filter’ then clicking on ‘analyze’ to see if the clip needed reanalyzing. I cannot find an ‘analyze’ button in that window and wonder if it had disappeared from the X5 version?
Regards, Peter
