Can't open MOV files

Post by Jon56 »

I just bought and installed the downloadable version of VSPX4 and I can't open MOV files. I updated to SP2 and still no joy.

When I open the "Open Video File" dialog, Quicktime is not listed among the file type options. I also tried dragging the MOV files from the File Explorer, but it won't let me drop them on the VSPX4 timeline or library. I'm confused because Corel advertizes VSPX4 as both reading and writing Quicktime. Does VSPX4 have any ability to provide information about what's wrong? Is there any way to test the configuration?

I want to edit files produced by a Contour HG camera. When I open them in Quicktime (v. 7.7 1680.34) the movie inspector says they're h.264 format.

Some users seems to have trouble with Quicktime. I am not one of them. I have the same version of QT as you, which as far as I am aware, is the current version, yet I have no trouble playing .mov in VS X4.

But some other users are in the situation you are in for some reason. And the only solution we have found is that they revert to the version of QT which came in the X4 package which is, as far as I can recall, 7.5.8. That usually works, but is a bummer for people who have an iPod and who use iTunes, which usually requires the latest version of QT to work properly.

Hi

When i use Insert Video --- The Open Video File Window shows Quicktime in the list of file types.
Seems starnge that you dont see this if you have QT installed

The version of my Quicktime is 7.7.1 (1680.42) and yet I have QuickTime listed when I go to FILE > INSERT FILE TO TIMELINE or INSERT FILE TO LIBRARY> INSERT VIDEO.

QuickTime Version

If reverting to the old QT version and updating to the latest version did not fix the problem. You may need to reinstall the program. You can follow the steps in uninstalling the program here. http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... dio-Pro-X4

Then just redownload the program from the original order email or follow these steps http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... d-My-Order to redownload your order.

Corel tech support says Quicktime 7.7 causes a component of VideoStudio X4 to crash, so they recommended uninstalling quicktime and installing an older version. That solved the problem.

Abiel -- please don't say things like that. The problem is NOT resolved. For several versions now, some of (like me and you) can use the very latest version of QT with no problem. But a lot of others can't. Those users have to use an older version of QT to get things to work. But it shouldn't be like this. Yes, that may work for them, but a lot of those users also have iPods, and without the latest version of QT, they can't update their iPods via iTune. So yes, it may be a solution for VS, but it is hardly a satisfactory solution when other programs are thus rendered useless.

This is really frustrating. Since I got an iphone 5 and updated my itunes and quicktime my corel is basically useless. I have done alot of research and there are tons of Corel users that are having theses issues, it isn't just a few... in fact I am pretty sure if you have an iphone 5 your corel will no longer work with .MOV files. You can import other types of files such as MP4 but most serious DSLR's record .MOV files and converting every file before importing doesn't make sense.

With an iphone 5 you can't revert back to an older quicktime. The .MOV files work fine in all other programs, they just don't work in x4 or x5... it is a corel problem not a QT problem.

Sony fixed the exact same glitch with their software within a day of finding out the issue a week before iphone 5's had even been released... seems ridiculous that corel isn't listening or just doesn't care. I LOVE MY COREL. It has become a staple to making same day images for our company (pro wedding photography / video)... but I can't put up with this much longer... especially see that sony fixed their issues way before it was an issue and corel refuses to even recognize their is a problem.

You might want to read this post from another thread on the same subject. It -- and subsequent posts in that thread -- suggest a solution which has worked for a number of other users. See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 74#p236574
