Auto Save / Recover

Post by wolfpackmars2 »

Is there any way to recover lost data after Paint Shop Pro X4 crashes?

There should at least be an option to save all open documents every x minutes. Where is this option?

I found where PSP saves the temp files and I recovered several of them. Is it possible to use these files to recover my data?

These two are related, so far I do not have any information as to how you can retrieve lost data from temp files once your PSP X4 crashes, though I've been bugging out developers is there is indeed a way to do this.

You can go to FILE > PREFERENCES > AUTO SAVE SETTINGS

Hi Abiel, thanks for responding.

I have read other posts that talk about the Preferences > Auto Save Settings. The only option there is the enable autosave in the adjust workspace.

So... where do the autosave files go? How do I know if it's working? How can I set the time delay between saves? Where do I set the option where the autosave files go? Most importantly, with autosave enabled, how do I recover the autosave from a crash.

Of course, now that I have had some sleep - maybe I am misreading this. Autosave will autosave to file I am working on... ? Still no idea how often this occurs...

In my case, I was working on a file that I had never saved that was based off of a PNG file. I assume that autosaves only work if I save to .pspimage file?

Is there ANY more information about this autosave feature? The help docs are pretty vague...

Please keep bugging the developers - we need some kind of way to recover data from crashes - every serious productivity application includes this feature.

An Adobe refugee here. I am doing the trial for PSP X4 to see if I can use it to good effect. So far I like it but I've already had a couple crashes in about 6 hours of usage.

So +1 to the autosave wish. As noted by the prior poster, it only works for the "Adjust" workspace, which is not 100% useful to me because I think I'm spending most time in the Edit workspace.

This is more than a wish. It is an essential feature, and should not be left out. There should be no need to "convince" the developers that this is a must do. I'm surprised that it not only was left out of X4, but was also left out of X3, X2, and versions prior to those.

This should be done first. Before dinner. And then right after dinner, the root causes for the known crashes should be fixed.

Well, to be fair, I don't think it was left out of previous releases. I have not had my previous releases crash on me (admittedly, I am not a power user), but from my research of other's experiences, previous versions would recover the data stored in the temp folder (essentially, the state files containing your work) when you next launched the application, or there were ways to get PSP to open the tmp files. With X4, the temp files are now automatically deleted as the first step when the program launches.

Additionally, the current version has an option to enable "AutoRecover" as stated in other posts, where prior versions included this option plus a time setting (ie, 5, 10 15 etc minutes) for the autosaves to be performed.

I believe Corel will release a fix for the problems in X4 soon. Give it a chance
