Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
What version number does SP1 patch to?
It might be that the version I just bought off the web at Corel (VS Pro X4) is already a newer version than SP1. I get that same message.
I have to be honest - I wish Corel would put a bit more info up on their SP1 and SP2 patch page. They could tell you "Patches to version 1.xxx" and whether SP1 is required to be installed before SP2 or if SP2 contains all the info that SP1 has.
Microsoft is usually good at providing that info in the patch details, for example.

Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
Hey there, how's it goin', eh? Well, VS Pro X4 Ultimate ruffled my feathers, but I'll be good here, I promise
So, my system was crashing frequently when I ran my Video Studio, [hence the ruffled feathers]. Found some nasties on my system, cleaned them out, and I uninstalled Video Studio using the special uninstall tool from the website, now I want to re-install it, which will prolly go pretty good, but I want to make sure SP1 and SP2 are installed properly. I guess my question is should I install SP1 first, or can I just go ahead and unzip and install SP2? I don't want to go down that road again, 's a nuisance uninstalling an reinstalling all the time. Best to avoid it if I can.
Video Studio Pro X4 Ultimate, version number 14.1.0.126. Thx for having great forum. I will likely be regular here.

always the best plan to install patches in the order they were released - and to install both - as far as I am aware Corel patches are not cumulative and you need to install both - No.1 first then when all looks good - No.2

Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
Well, installation seemed to go good, patches were installed in order, that is SP1 first then SP2, and don't show any apparent conflicts, and all the downloads seemed to install successfully. However, after I hit the stop button, or any of the other methods of stopping are used there is about 10 seconds where I can do nothing but move my mouse around on the screen. No buttons are active on the Video Studio window. This is the same behavior I was experiencing before I installed the patches, but there aren't any error messages now, thankfully. Any ideas on what's happening or what I can do to effect a positive change would be greatly appreciated. This really interrupts the creative flow when I'm in my project. Thanks for a lovely forum, and all the help you do.

Hi Pat
It may be related to the type of video files you are using.
AVCHD types are quite difficult to edit, a fast PC is required, Duel core being the minimum spec’
Try using the samples from the library, does that improve reaction time.
There is a process called Smart Proxy this creates duplicate files that VS finds it easier to handle.
Playback should improve.
I ran a quick test, don’t have HD except samples, these played ok, a little delay on start but stop was ok allowing me to use the mouse without delay.
However deleting the Smart Proxy gave a delay after stop of some 3 seconds.
The delay being noticeable in Project and Clip playback.
By the way there is usually a pause prior to playing the clip, this seems to be associated with the amount of editing applied.
So are you using HD type video and if yes have you allowed the Smart Proxy files to be created.
View the Settings-Smart Proxy Manager—File Manager will list all proxy files.
On creation a small double icon will show on the clip (best I can describe it as)

Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
Hello again. Thanks for keeping up with me on this. Yeah, I checked if any of the videos are AVCHD, and I find I'm using MPEG pretty much all the way. I tried Smart Proxy both on and off, no difference either way. Still getting the >10 second delay after hitting the stop button, then things start going again. I have just finished updating, installing and upgrading drivers, codecs, DirectX and what not, was happy to see I didn't break anything and that system started again. However, it doesn't appear that I fixed anything either. And I've yet to go far enough into my project to see if I still get the error message that started this whole thing anyway. I'll keep plugging away at it.
Edit #1: Oh yeah, when I checked Smart Proxy, there were no files in it at all. I'll play around and see how to make them go there so I can do a valid test of Smart Proxy instead of just saying it didn't make any difference. Thx

Hi Pat
We need to know the exact properties of the video files you are using
right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
If you wish you can copy the window as an image and attach to the post.
Using Alt+PrtSc will copy to your clipboard, then paste to an image editor to save as jpg.
Add Attachment
Smart Proxy only works on video having a large frame size above 720 x ++
You seem to indicate using standard deffinition video which should not require SmartProxy

Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
I just installed VS Pro X4 Ultimate 14.2.0.23.
After installing VS Pro X4, I ran the Ultimate Bonus Package install with no problems.
I'm not sure SP1 loaded, because I didn't see a completed screen after running it. I went ahead and ran SP2. But, now I'm wondering if I should uninstall and redo the install to ensure that SP1 is properly installed.
When I tried running SP1 again, it wouldn't proceed. The Install Wizard said "The installed version of the application could not be determined. The setup will now terminate."
Is it possible to tell if SP1 and SP2 are installed?
Should I reinstall VS X4 from scratch and install SP1 and SP2 in order?
Thanks.

If you had read this entire thread, you would have seen that I have already said (and repeated) that the version number when the two packs are installed, is exactly the same as yours. In other words, your version already has the updates installed and no further action is required. See http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php ... 14#p237314 above.

Thanks for the clarification.

Re: VS ProX4 SP 2 Update Now Available
I know that SP2 updates the software to 14.2.0.23
What version would SP1 update the software to if it as the first patch applied after initial installation?
Say you install it and it has a 14.0.x.x designation. You apply SP1.
Then what would the version number be with that patch successfully applied?
Would it be something like 14.1.x.x in format? If so, what exact, complete version number would that be?
Thanks much
