
I'm afraid I didn't look closely at that series of messages since essentially they are gobbledegook to me. But you are of course right. Your computer already has the necessary DirectX files since they are installed as part of Windows. The VS installation package also contains a DirectX element, but it first checks to ensure that the necessary files have *not* been loaded, and if they are already there, AFAIK it leaves them alone.
The same goes for the WMP references at the end since again Windows Media Player and at least some of the necessary codecs associated with it have been installed by Windows from the start. (Later, though, if you use .wmv files a lot, you may find you need to install Windows Media Encoder series 9.)
But frankly, I still don't know where you can go from there...
