Free Trial Videostudio pro X4

Post by countpierre »

I downloaded the free trial and installed, which all went well.
Having used it to do some simple edits from video shot with a Sony HDR-CX700, I encountered a problem with files with .mpg extensions (The explorer crash).
Thinking it might have something to do with the install I removed it using the instructions on the Corel site. This did not solve the problem. :(

Anyway to the problem I have now.
After several installs and uninstalls of pro X4, it now installs, but won't run. :(

Is there a limit to the number of times you can install the free trial?
I am well within the 30 day trial period.

Hi
And welcome to the forums

I do not think there is any limit to installing the program, just limited to running over 30 days.
When you uninstall not all files are removed and a manual approach may be required.
The knowledge base gives these details, I assume they are appropriate for the trial version.

When you say it wont run, what is actually happening are you seeing any error messages.

Hi
Some things to try……..
Go to :-
C:\Documents and Settings\USER NAME\Application Data\Ulead Systems\Corel VideoStudio Pro\14.0\en-US

Re-name the folder “en-US” to “en-US copy”

Start Video Studio

Yes, I have tried the manual clean as well.
When you say it wont run, what is actually happening are you seeing any error messages.
When I double click on the VSPX4 program icon nothing happens, no error messages nothing.
One thing I have noticed is that the install now doesn't put a My Projects folder in My Documents, also I cannot find anything related to VXPX4 in the local settings directory. I suspect this is causing the program to abort

Hi

Sorry but forgot to mention the folder en-US may be hidden.
Go to any folder on your pc
Tools-Folder Options-View-Show Hidden Files and Folders.

Tools-Folder Options-View-Show Hidden Files and Folders.
I always have that option set.

In the first install (when it the program was working) that folder was present.

Not sure what could be causing it not to be created. There is no error during the install process.

The folder does not get created till Video Studio’s initial start, I will wake up sometime today

Go to C:\Program Files\Corel\Corel VideoStudio Pro X4

Double click the file ……. vstudio.exe …….

Does the program start.

Hi

Some users having install problems found that after creating a “new user account” allowed them to install.
I know you have installed a few times, and from what I can remember it is painfully slow, but maybe try the new user account approach.
Interestingly once installed the user account can be removed.

I will look into that when I get home.
Presumably the "new user" needs to have admin rights?

BTW, thanks for your speedy responses, much appreciated.

I set up a new user with administrator rights and downloaded the free trial again.

Ran the setup all okay without errors.

Launched the program from desktop icon, and got the welcome banner, and entered username, etc.
Nothing! :(
waited for a while and tried to launch again.
Nothing! :(

Logged off and switched to my normal user.

Hi
Fast running out of ideas, don’t think you get any cover from Corel Support when using the trial?
------------------------
Some Corel products use "protexis licensing", a program to stop you modifying the software.
The file I see in Task Manager is called PSIServices

If this program is disabled then VS X4 will not run, can’t remember if you get warnings or whether the program just doesn’t start.

If Protexis has become corrupt with the repeated installations, just maybe…….

So uninstall VSX4
Remove Protexis (do a google to find out how)
Reinstall X4

However if you have other Corel Products they may be affected………
-----------------------

System Restore
Don’t like using it myself, but may be worth a go. At least you don’t need to go back far as the trial only runs for 30 days
-----------------------

There is Abiel a Corel Employee frequents the forums maybe could have some input with this problem.

PS Found this info on Protexis Dont know how secure this page is........

The Protexis Licensing stuff is running okay, 'cause if I disable it I get the "damaged files" pop-up, as described in the sticky above.
I might go ahead and purchase and see if the full program runs. If not I can always get my money back or at least get some support from Corel.

It's a shame, as I have used Videostudio 10+ for years, but need to upgrade to use avchd files from my new camera.

Thanks again for your replies.

Hi

As far as I know the trial version is a cut down of the full version, fully functioning but limited with its library and templates.
So if you cannot run the trial I think you will have trouble with the purchased version. You never know it may work?

Protexis would have been installed with Video Studio X4, certainly not Ulead VS 10.
I think Corel Paint Shop X4 also needs Protexis.
As I say I would remove it and re-install.

and its good night from me..........
