Man, this is a tough site to get customer service on! Seemed like every option would eventually take me back to that link that contained the contact form but only for registered users, even though there was a pull down option of "Trial"!
I am seriously considering buying Video Studio X4 in the next few days but would like to download the trial to see if it does what I need it to do and how easily. I've downloaded it twice and each time it stops installing and gives the error that it is "unable to register control panel". I've no idea what that means nor how to fix it. I'm hoping someone can assist me with this pretty quickly so that I can give this program a try over the T-giving holiday.
Don't know what info you might need but....I'll start with Vista 64 bit. Let me know if you need further computer specs.
THX!

Re: Unable to install Trial
Bump ---
I would like to be able to try this before I buy it. I won't buy it unless I can get this trial to download and my plans are to purchase it within a week or not at all!

This is a user to user forum, and we have no relation to the main Corel.com site apart from being users of their products. As such, we are not at all related to their customer service section which you have been unsuccessfully trying to contact. None of us, moreover, are Corel employees, apart from two who sometimes post here.
That being said, I can't say that I have heard that particular error message -- about registering a control panel -- before. One option we usually recommend to people having problems like yours, though, is to set up a new Windows User account with Admin privileges, and try installing under that profile. If that works, then you should also be able to open the program under your normal user profile, and can delete the new one.

Re: Unable to install Trial
Every search I made using the message "unable to register control panel" are hits for older windows version. Can you tell me if your Windows vista is an upgrade from older version or was it pre-installed when you bought the computer?
Aside from the suggestion of Ken, you may also want to disable UAC or user account control of Windows that you are using before you download the installer of VS X4.
Steps to disable UAC can be found using the links below.
Vista: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/wind ... -on-or-off
Windows 7: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/Wind ... -on-or-off
You can then directly download the trial of VS X4 here.
And you need to do this using the new Windows user with admin that Ken suggested.

Re: Unable to install Trial
I'll give that a try - I've just been messing with recorded TV movies and burning from computer for 2 1/2 months - getting a routine then having a program/step fail and having to start over. Truth to tell, I'm tired of it. I especially don't want to have to jump through hoops to get a purchased product to work!
I built this computer about 3 1/2 years ago using Vista 64 SP1. I have since upgraded to SP2. Not ready to upgrade to Win7 because I can't stand that Microsoft charges so much, especially to Vista owners, when they knew they'd delivered a very buggy and unstable product. So, I'm taking a stand against Bill Gates and withholding my $160 - that'll teach him!
