A Few Questions About Paint Shop Pro X4

Post by llyr8 »

Hi Everyone! :)

I got a few questions about Paintshop Pro X4 and I would really appreciate any help you can provide. :)

1. I am debating whether to buy PaintShop Pro X4 or PaintShot Pro X4 Ultimate which are on sale at the moment. Which is better? I understand that the Ultimate version comes with Nik® Color Efex Pro™ 3.0 filters. Have any of you found these filters useful?

2. I tried a trial version of Paintshop Pro X3 during the summer and found that it was at times unstable with just .jpg files. Is X4 better and how does it handle .tifs since these files are typically much bigger in size? Any stability problems with those?

X4 and X4 Ultimate are the same programs. Ultimate has some extra filters added, that's all.
Can't help with the Tifs, I don't use them, but overal I think X4 is better than X3.

llyr8,
When I export my files from Lightroom to PSPX4 for further processing. They are exported as a tiff file. I have never had a problems in X2, X3 or X4 with those files.
I have a problem with the exposure of files being exported to PSPX4. PSPX4 shows the files about 1 to 1.5 stops darker the LR. When I view the same files in other programs the exposure matches that of LR?? %$^^#.
The extra money for the Ultimate package is not that much, and the addition filters will only enhance your photos. May take a bit of time to learn proper use of filters, but they are a good product. Just a side note, the Nik filters included in the Ultimate package are not the latest version.
Regards,
Mike

Hi Mike,

What filters are included with the NIK 3.0 set that is included in the Ultimate Version? I saw the NIK 4.0 version...on NIK's website, but couldn't find any information about Version 3.0.

Included in PSP X4 Ultimate are..

Nik® Color Efex Pro™ 3.0, Fotolia Images, Picture Tubes™, Create a custom photo book from Blurb®.

For a version comparison, you can click here.

For your 2nd question, I think it will be answered if you just use the program.

I import/open all my files as tifs. They are 92 meg. I then save them as PSP files to work on so as to use the layers and other features. My files are often as big as 500meg. Never an issue. They can take a few second to load at times but otherwise size 'doesn't' matter! :?
