changing the crop resolution PSPX4
Relatively new here.....I want to take my out of camera image, which is at 314ppi at about 9x12 and crop it to 8x10 at 300ppi. But, when I go to the crop tool, and click 8x10 preset, the resolution is set at 72ppi, and i can't see how to change that. So, the preset crop tool gives an outline of the crop area that is very small. The picture itself when it comes up is something like 33 " x 38" at 72ppi. If I go into resize image, it gets time consuming; you'd think I could just select the 8x10 preset at 300ppi and get a file that is about 2400 x 3000 ppi....8x10, 300ppi. What's the trick? Thanks. Ken

Re: changing the crop resolution PSPX4
Are you making sure that "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and "Specify Print Size" are turned on?
Then select a size 8x10 and drag out the rectangle. It'll adjust the resolution manually so that the area selected contains enough pixels to fit the size given. So as you drag out that rectangle (which will maintain its aspect ratio) then the resolution will shrink or grow as needed. You aren't forced to stick with a ppi of 72.
Of course doing that isn't quite as exact as I'd like. I ended up with 2402x3002 because I couldn't control it enough to get the exact 300ppi.

Re: changing the crop resolution PSPX4
Thanks for the response. That helped. But, it still seems ackward. I'm surprised the program does not simply allow to set the ppi and the crop dimensions, and then hold to that no matter how large or small the crop area is. As I drag the crop box, the ppi does change. I'm just use to having set the ppi and crop dimensions and getting exactly that result.
Re: changing the crop resolution PSPX4
Thanks. That helped a bit. I can drag the crop box and get kind of what I want; but like you say, it's not exact. I am use to being able to simply drag and expand the pre set crop box to any dimension and still get exactly 8x10 at 300ppi. Oh well.....

Here's another steps that you can try.
without turning on the "Maintain Aspect Ratio" and "Specify Print Size" you can go to IMAGE > RESIZE, then under the PRINT SIZE change the RESOLUTION to 300 and make sure PIXELS/INCH is selected, then on the PIXEL DIMENSIONS, select PERCENT then change the setting to 100. click OK then you'll see that the resolution on the CROP TOOL will change to 300 and you can then crop the image to 8x10 or to what every dimension that you want.
requires you a click or two but I think at least you get the ppi that you want.
