VideoStudio Hangs up in the Capture Phase with a DVD-R

I installed the trial version of VideoStudio 9.
I tried to import the video clips using the Movie Wizard from a DVD-R that had been finalized in the camcorder (Sony DVD403). I know that the DVD-R is OK as I have been able to play the video clips both using the Roxio DVD player software on my computer as well as my Denon DVD player that I use in my home theater setup.

However, VideoStudio 9 hangs up while it tries to import the clips from the DVD-R. It is however able to read the DVD-R OK and display all the available clips.

Has anyone encountered similar problems in the Capture phase?

I use a Windows 2000 OS. I have installed DirectX 9 components.

If the DVD uses AC-3 audio, that may be the problem. The trial version does not include AC-3 support.
