Expression Web 4 color coding for any javascript has gone
Stick with this, Corel Paint Shop Pro X4 and Corel Video Studio Pro X4 are involved in this problem.
Early September 2011, I found all of the javascript on my Expression Web 4 project coding had lost its color coding. All the text was black.
It doesn't matter if the code is in a js file or in a html page.
I tried, Tools > Page Editor Options... and Color Coding Tab, going to, and changing Display items called "Script ??????". But it doesn't fix it.
The only one that seems to work is "Script Identifier", and that changes all of the script to one color.
Later in September I did a bit more.
This is what happened.
I went to System Restore and restored my computer to a date two weeks previous.
This fixed the problem. Color Coding for JS files in EW4 returned.
I then started to install the Windows Updates and Programs that where installed in this period, until the problem came back. (Color Coding for JS files disappeared.)
The problem seemed to come on when I install Corel Paintshop Pro X4 (trial Version).
At the same time I installed PSP X4, DirectX was installed. I don't know if PSP X4 had anything to do with the DirectX install.
If I uninstall PSP X4, the problem still remained with EW4.
The only way to restore the problem with EW4 was to use System Restore again and restore to the state before the DirectX Install.
Today 20th November I did some more testing.
Again my color coding for javascript went back to black.
I've had a couple of Windows 7 updates recently, (KB917607, KB 2607576 and also SP3 for Microsoft Office 2007) not sure if this bought the problem back on.
Apart from many other programs, I have:
Expression Web 4
Corel Paint Shop Pro X4
Corel Video Studio Pro X4
Today I thought I would do a bit more testing.
I reloaded PSPX4 using file PSPP_X4_PF.exe This caused the color coding for javascript to go black.
I thought, what if I reload it again on top of the existing file. BUT I accidentally reloaded Video Studio X4 (File VSX4_Pro_TBYB.exe)
Running this file a second time (File VSX4_Pro_TBYB.exe), actually asks if you want to remove Video Studio X4. I said no and cancelled.
Now I went back to EW4 and the color coding for Javascript had miraculously re appeared.
Great, I've fixed it.
Not so.
When I reboot the PC and go to EW4 javascript, the color coding has gone.
When I run Video Studio X4 (File VSX4_Pro_TBYB.exe) a second time and do the cancel, the color coding comes back.
I can do this any amount of times,
Reboot - no color.
Reload VSX4 - color returns.
Reboot - no color.
Reload VSX4 - color returns.
Something seems to get loaded on the initialising of VSX4.
So that's where I am right now, I don't know what to do.

I'm afraid I don't either... and I have the same software as you, including Expression Web. And from memory, no one else has reported this problem, unless someone else can recall when.
And as far as DirectX is concerned, that should not have anything to do with things. The installation of either PSP or VS X4 do not overwrite whichever version of DirectX you have installed. If you are using Windows 7, then you still have DirectX 11. I am not even sure that the installation of either X4 even changes the built, let alone the version of DirectX. You could of course go to the Microsoft site and download and install the latest build of DirectX, and see if that helps... though I don't think that build has been updated for quite a few months now.

You miss the point about DirectX. Yes, you have version 11 because you have Windows 7, as do I. But you almost undoubtedly don't have the latest build of DirectX 11. If you go to the Microsoft site, you will find they regularly update DirectX with a one size fits all update which works on DirectX 9.0c (XP), 10 (Vista) and 11. You get a new build which often, we find, corrects problems introduced by Windows updates. But DirectX curiously enough is not part of Windows automatic updates. You have to do it manually.
There is sticky at the top of the forum, that contains a link to the most recent version. Download it, then create a folder on your system to extract the files into, because it will extract around 200 files, and I sure wouldn't want them running loose. Once extracted, locate inside the folder the DXSETUP.exe file and run it. Once it has finished installing you can delete the folder containing all the extracted files.

Ken if you'd post a link to that sticky topic I think anyone reading this and looking for it would be most appreciative.Ken Berry wrote:There is sticky at the top of the forum, that contains a link to the most recent version.

Sorry. The link is at the top of the Video Studio forum. I am so used to posting this information there that I forgot that I was not in the Video Studio forum!!!

Hi,
Downloaded "dxwebsetup.exe" from suggested link. When run, I get "DirectX setup has determined that a newer or equivalent version of DirectX has been installed already. No installation is necessary."
So I presume the DirectX I have is the latest.
Other DirectX files I have downloaded from Microsoft site are "DXSDK_Jun10.exe" and "directxJun2010_redist.exe". Should I be using these?
Cheers.

If you are getting that message, then obviously you don't need anything more in that regard.

Re: Expression Web 4 color coding for any javascript has gon
Just to wind this up, this is what I have found.
(I don't think the problem is with EW4 or VSX4.)
A few day ago, I went to use Windows Media Player and found it wouldn't open. After a lot of searching I found a site that told me to do this:
Click Start, type cmd in the Start Search box, right-click cmd.exe, and then click Run as administrator. At the command prompt, type the following commands, and press ENTER after each command:
regsvr32 vbscript.dll
regsvr32 jscript.dll
regsvr32 wmp.dll
Great WMP now works.
Above info from:
http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/wind ... 3f32a9834f
Sometime later that day, I was using EW4 and noticed that the color coding for javascript had returned. ??? More checking required.
I found,
When I reboot my PC, color coding disappears.
Run the above procedure, color coding returns.
When I reboot my PC, color coding disappears.
Run the above procedure, color coding returns.
Further checking proved, it is the regsvr32 jscript.dll command that fixed the color coding in EW4. But the jscript.dll won't stay registered on reboot.
On further searching I found this site:
http://www.howtogeek.com/forum/topic/me ... jscriptdll
I followed this instruction:
Actually you could have the command to register jscript.dll run on startup with Task Scheduler, here is how:
Open Control Panel.
Open Administrative Tools.
Open Computer Management.
Click Task Sceduler on the left.
Click Create Task on the right.
In the Create Task window:
1. Type "Logon Task: Register jscript.dll" in the name box.
2. Click Run with highest privileges.
3. Click the Triggers tab and click the New Button.
5. Select "At log on" by "Begin the task".
6. Click ok.
7. Click the actions tab and click the new button.
8. Under program/script type regsvr32.exe
9. Under add arguments type /s jscript.dll
10. Click ok
11. If you have a laptop with a battery click the Conditions tab and uncheck "Start the task only if computer is on AC power.
12. Click ok
Now close the computer management window.
This has fixed my problem, but whether it is the correct thing to do, I don't know.
Until I find a proper fix, I'll leave it at that.
Cheers,
Thomo.
