Hi everyone
I recently used two Camcorders at a wedding and one (Panasonic NV-GS500) when connected via firewire to VS XP Pro3 showed up straight away with DV (AVI) download option - which is obviously the quality I want/need. The other Camcorder was a Canon HDV HV30 and it only offered MPEG download quality option. Both camcorders used Panasonic DV tapes and both are HD Digital camcorders so why would one offer DV and the other MPEG?
How do I capture from the Canon in AVI?
Thanks
Peta
EDIT- Sorry to have troubled you, I turned every thing off (VS and canon camcorder) and this time DV option presented itself.
Only offered MPEG option ?

Re: Only offered MPEG option ?
The Canon HV-30 is a high definition camera filming in the HDV format. HDV by its very nature is high definition mpeg-2 using the .m2t extension normally. If your intention is to make a standard def DVD and never use the high def capacity of the HDV, then you have to change the internal menu of the Canon to output in DV instead of HDV. It can't be done by X4 -- it has to be done in the camera itself. (I have the HV-20, its immediate predecessor.)
