VS9 Demo Constantly Crashing!!

Post by me »

I own VS7, but have been trying out the 30 day demo of VS9. Running Win XP SP1.

I have been editing a video with VS9 Demo (cutting out sections, adding transitions between clips, adding titles, etc). It keeps crashing though, very frequently, usually with messages like "could not write memory to ******".

I usually have used it right after re-booting the computer, no other programs running, most background programs turned off, anti-virus disabled, etc. In other words, I give it the maximum conditions for stable operation. But it keeps crashing! I end up now saving the project after every little change I make in it, because I am afraid I will lose my work otherwise. (The program has an auto-save function, I think set at every ten minutes, and the auto-saved version is always well-behind the current one. So I am manually saving after every edit.

It is a hassle. Since it saves projects to .VSP files, the same as VS7, I thought I would open it in VS7 to complete, having so much trouble with VS9. (I haven't used VS7 in a while, but I don't think it was this unstable!) However, VS7 would not open the VSP file saved by VS9. So, although the files have the same extension, there must be something different with the file format.

One would think that companies would strive to make their products more stable. In that case, a version 9 should be more stable than a version 7, right? But sometimes it seems they have no concern for making the present product work better, more stable, etc., but just want to add more "features" they can advertise. Don't they realize they will lose customers that way, if their product is constantly crashing, etc.?

Any suggestions for changing settings, etc., to make this product more stable?

With the full version, is there an update yet that makes the product more stable? If so, they should really update the demo as well (patches don't usually work on demos). No user who tries this demo (downloaded a few days ago), and has constant crashes, will want to buy it.

Any suggestions? Thank you.

No suggestions?

Anyone from Ulead reading the forum? I see so many posts here about frequent crashes with VS9.

If they don't improve the program soon (including the demo) I think they will lose most of their customer base. Stability and reliability are more important than any " new" features.

I sure wish I could finish the project in VS7!

What sort of answer do you expect? You've provided no useful information that might serve to trouble-shoot your problem.

I use UVS 9 almost every day, and it's been extremely reliable for me. I've had one or two crashes, but it's the best version of UVS for me yet -- both feature-wise and in terms of stability.

Also be aware that while Ulead monitors these forums, they very rarely reply here. If you have a problem, it's best to take it up with Tech Support.
