PSP X4 Tone Mapping

Post by geru »

The Tone Mapping tool in X4 has changed from previous versions. In X4 there are two sliders (Strength & Block Size)

The Help File is no different than what was found in X3 and doesn't mention Block Size.

Does anyone have an understanding of just what this slider does?

Yes it effects the size of the blocks that PSP uses to perform the calculation.

Originally the equation would have to be fixed each time larger image sizes were encountered so that the best result could be given. Now we have control over the block size, it can give more dramatic or simpler looks to it an image based on how large or small the block is. This is especially important on larger images as you'll need to effect the block size to get similar results on different sized images.

They have also increased the range of the bottom slider back to 100. So lots of playing around fun times.
