File Associations

Post by couldbe »

Hello, I just loaded the box version of X4. I cannot change the file associations. All files are checked and will not change. I removed the whole program and reloaded, still have the same problem.
Any ideas???
Mike

It is different to the other versions it comes up with this.
Control Panel\All Control Panel Items\Default Programs\Set Default Programs\Set Program Associations
just minimize X4 and you will see it..Cheers

Filly thanks for the reply and procedure,
I have tried the Control Panel\All Control Panel Items....,File/ File Preference/Reset and holding Shift and starting X4 still no luck. The only box unchecked is Select All and all others will not change when selected.
I guess I will uninstall/install program again. I submitted a trouble question to Corel for so possible help. Really makes no sense not being able to change these settings. I like the changes to X4 from version X3 and hope Corel continues to listen to the feedback from their users. I expect further editions will offer even greater performance and newer features. I currently use Lightroom for most editing and X4 and PSE9 for selections and layers. Would like to drop PSE9 in the future, but content aware is really nice. It's getting harder to remember all the different shortcuts for the 3 programs.

Again thanks for the response and any further advice,
Mike

Mike

Can you not do it through the standard Windows 7 option of 'Start >> Default Programmes >> Associate a file or protocol with a program' - - that gives you the option to change associations by selecting a file type then selecting 'Change Program' at the top and pointing windows to the programme you prefer.

It seems to be a problem with the program (X4). What I did to work around this was to Right click on the file type I didn't want X4 to be primary program to open that file type and selected the program I wanted, and checked use this program.
The file will now opens with the program I selected.

The next time you open PSP you will get a pop-up to change the file association settings and you will not be able to change anything else EXCEPT the file type you chose.

For example I selected windows picture viewer for jpegs so now windows will display the jpeg.
When I opened X4 the next time got the pop-up and just checked don't show me again.
In X4 & File Associations Jpeg is unchecked.

On the Corel KB there's a steps on "How to associate an image or photo to Corel PaintShop Photo Pro X3?' but you can also apply these steps using PSP X4.

Just click http://corel.force.com/index/articles/e ... oto-Pro-X3
