What am I doing wrong with the smudge tool?

Post by pdxrjt »

I have used the smudge tool in the past and it worked just fine. Recently, I cloned out a street sign and wanted to smudge the cloned area a bit. I selected the smudge tool and started to work.... essentially it began erasing my photo..... I could see the checkered pattern after I wiped an area with it. I tried various combinations of density and opacity (all with the brush set at "normal" in mode) but continued to get erasing??? I looked at it in help, but the help was not very specific..... what might I try to get the old smudge back?

TIA

I am not getting that at all.

If you're sure you have the smudge tool then try resetting your workspace. If that doesn't work report it to Corel maybe it's a bug.

Just to add to what Levi mention.. here are the steps to reset your work space.

You can do that by pressing and holding down the SHIFT key then double-click on the PSP icon then when you received the message "DO YOU WAN TO RESTORE PAINTSHOP Pro TO ITS DEFAULT STATE?" just click OK.

A mixed thank you and groan. After resetting the defaults, the smudge tool (PSPX4) now works properly.... that's the thank you. I lost my customized workspace, that's a groan..... lot of work went into creating my own toolbars etc.

Thanks for the tip, glad it it working though.

ps Live and learn, after I reset X4 I went to load my old workspace and "Workspace" was greyed out. So I created a new workspace. When I went to save it, low and behold my original workspace was there. Not sure why it was greyed out to begin with, but now I have two very similar workspaces and won't duplicate it again!!!

The smudge tool, along with some others, wont work with 16bit files. I hope Corel fixes that problem with the first patch.
