Hi,
Have just installed VSx4 trial version. I previously used x3 with no problems.
I've created a new project, imported an AVI and it plays fine in the preview window, in either Clip or Project mode. However, as soon as I pause it the image goes black. This makes any kind of editing nearly impossible.
I don't get the problem with the pre-installed sample video "V21". So I guess it is clip related? It plays and pauses fine in media player.
Do you know why this maybe?
thanks
Nigel

Ok, I installed ffdshow which has fixed it. Although, I get a few seconds of the application freezing after pausing now. Not sure what's up...

Hi Nigel
and welcome to the forums…….
We need to know a lot more info regarding your video file.
At least you seem to have identified that it requires ffdshow.
Are you sure you used a ffdshow type videos with X3 before you installed the codec??????
Right click a clip in the timeline and select properties, what are they?
Reading http://forum.corel.com/EN/viewtopic.php?f=1&t=8959
Will give you the details that we need, practically everything……
Can you also fill in your Profile to include your PC details, some video types are difficult to edit especially using a slower pc, and you do not give much info…….details of how in link above.

Re: Preview screen goes black when pausing
Hi there,
Thanks but I have figured it out (and removed ffdshow). It's an HD camera providing the videos, so I think they are AVCHD .AVIs. Looking through the forum, this appears to be causing this kind of locking up and freezing. If I convert the imported clip to an .mp4 first, it works fine.
Is it correct to say that there is no point trying to edit AVCHD format? Or is there some official documentation explaining how to?
thanks

Re: Preview screen goes black when pausing
AVCHD is edited and putput by many of our users without problem, though some others do have problems. One of the main problems is that the big camera manufacturers have all produced their own variants on the format, which complicates things for software manufacturers.
Your own situation sounds a bit strange since it is not really normal to have AVCHD wrapped in an .avi extension. Normally, AVCHD files use either the .mts or the .m2ts extension.
What is the make and model of your camera? Did it come with its own software? It is often better to use such software to get the video from the camera to the computer, and then insert it into VS from there -- even though for the most part VS is capable of importing it direct from the camera. It would be useful, though, to know how you are going about this.
