PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
PaintShop Pro X4 Bug list:
============================
* CTRL+O opens "SAVE AS" dialog instead of "OPEN" dialog. You can redefine the shortcut, but it will still open the same wrong dialog (hardcoded?).
* SHIFT+F12 opens "SAVE AS" dialog instead of the "SAVE COPY AS" dialog. You can redefine the shortcut, but it will still open the same wrong dialog (hardcoded?).
* Due to the bugs above, there are no keyboard shortcuts to open or save copy of an image.
* In the "Save Copy As" dialog, hitting enter key after typing the file name causes the dialog box to hide behind the main window.
* Program takes a *long* time to start. Advertisement claimed it would start faster, but in reality it takes MANY times longer.
I have already tried resetting the database and removing my personal media folders from the Catalog Manager, but X4 still takes long to start, longer than any other PSP version I ever used.
Loved features that were lost or changed:
===========================================
* All colored tool icons are now grey, making it *REALLY* hard to tell them apart. They now all look the SAME to me.
* Application window no longer remembers the last size and location when it starts.
* There is no keyboard shortcut to delete a layer (and LOTS of other things).
* Images can no longer be untabbed for side by side comparisons (if they can, PLEASE let me know how).
* Layer controls are now far away are at the bottom, while the layers stack at the top (!?).
* Docked interface will no longer preserve layout sizes when window is resized. They just tale as much space as they want.
* Mouse scroll zooming will no longer snap to window size as it did with X3. Maybe this is a side effect from images being now stuck to tabs-only?
* Right-click on layers is missing options that were available in X3. Customizing the right click menu is limited.
I am probably forgetting other bugs I have found so far, for they are *many* and I am only one.

You can get windowed view back....technically. It's a very stripped down version of the normal MDI interface.
Turn off Tabbed Documents from the Window menu. Or select "Cascade" or similar from the Window menu. Just don't maximize a window or it goes back to a tabbed document view.
Yes, on some computers PSPx4 is slower. But on most that I know of it's fast. Best to report this directly to Corel as this is just a user to user board.
Please report bugs here https://www.surveymonkey.com/s/PSPX4
And provide information on your system to the developers.
Colored icons and lighter interface are coming back with SP1.
And I think all of these have been reported, some might potentially be fixed in SP1 as well. They had a lot to choose from and work on.

Control O works on mine.
Shift F12 on mine is Save for Office but actually F12, Control F12, and Shift F12 all result in Save as...
However it actually does result in a save as
Mine is a blazingly fast start-up. As you may have heard color icons are on the way. (Your machine specs indicate you should have the same results as I do...)
Application window sizing is completely accurate when I restart.
View Customize Shortcuts gets you to a place where you can change/add any shortcut you want.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
Wow thank you so much for the info! I was going sick without being able to make side-to-side comparisons, and moving data from one image to another was much harder with tabs. This makes my day!LeviFiction wrote:You can get windowed view back....technically. It's a very stripped down version of the normal MDI interface. Turn off Tabbed Documents from the Window menu. Now is there a way to move the layer controls to the top instead of being far away at the bottom? The layers stack at the top, so why are the controls at the bottom? That doesn't make sense to me. ^^;
Well, if those things have already been reported, then I suppose I don't have to report them again.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
In my computer, CTRL+O, SHIFT+F12 and CTRL+F12 all result into the same "Save As" dialog. Redefining the shortcuts seems to have no effect on this. PSP X4 is hardcoded to open "Save As" no matter what keys you assign to it. Ironically those are the most frequently used shortcuts by anybody, so I suppose those things have already been reported, right?kaymann wrote:Control O works on mine.

I consider my PC a quite high end one, but PSP X4 takes long to load. Resetting the database + removing my media files from the Catalog Manager seems to have improved start up a bit. The splash screen claims PSP X4 is initializing this and that, and that's what's taking time.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
There is absolutely no reason X4 should not be blazingly fast on your machine... except four that I can think of.
Bad install files (not likely).
Failing hardware (not likely with your great system).
Other resource competing programs running on your system.
Malware (likely on almost any computer these days - even with the best of AV).

Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
I see what you mean, but if that would be the case, my other programs would also have to start slow, and this only happens with PSP X4. Even X3 starts faster in the same computer. In the splash screen, PSP X4 claims to be initializing stuff, and that's where it takes time.kaymann wrote:There is absolutely no reason X4 should not be blazingly fast on your machine... except four that I can think of.

First time I installed X4, it started almost like immediately, but over time it got slower every time. That's why I suspected the database was getting bloated because of the (useless) cataloger. I now reset the database and removed my media folders from the cataloger, but it still takes like half a minute to start. I usually go browse the web while waiting for it to start. ;p
I wonder if this is because I have installed my existing X3 plugins into the X4 version? I have like 5-6 plugins installed - probably like everybody else.

Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
The big thing to understand is that just because you have a good fast system does not mean x4 will work well on it. The reasons for this have never been revealed but there always seems to be at least one or two computers that doesn't respond well for whatever reason. PSP does not always seem to be optimized for every system configuration and so when these get reported the developers can sometimes find some sort of bottle-neck that stops up a few computers because of some specific configuration and get it worked out.
By comparison to my system yours is a lot more powerful but PSPx4 loads faster than all of my other versions. So it's not just the hardware but how PSP responds to the hardware.

Just one other thought was the install clean - in other words was every other program shut down at the time of install... I know this can be frustrating....

As posted by josephlin, PSP X4 Sp1 is currently on testing stage and the program that I have already have SP1 installed.ken1171 wrote:I think so. I have already uninstalled and installed again. So you can expect the update to be rolled-out soon. Probably much earlier than we expected.. (I'm also waiting for the update for my home PC)

That's great news, thank you! Would you be kind enough to tell me how much of the list I've put together at the top was fixed? ^______^Abiel Corel NA wrote:As posted by josephlin, PSP X4 Sp1 is currently on testing stage and the program that I have already have SP1 installed. Re: PaintShop Pro X4 - Reporting Bugs
There is a bug in PSP X4 that causes the program to crash. I recorded a script using Topaz plugins (Adjust 5 then Simplify). When I ran the script on a picture the programs crashed and then closed. When I ran a script that was created in version X3 it worked ok so I believe there is an issue in X4 script recording when using Topaz plugins. It is vital to fix this soon. Using the plugins manually (without a script) works ok. Running Windows 7 x64 with 8GB of RAM and AMD PII quad CPU.
