No sound capture from a VCR VS 8/9

Post by sismithin0 »

Hi.
I recently brought a FlyTv Platinum PCi tuner card.
The card is installed correctly and all works fine.
I have got Ulead video studio 8 & 9.
I connect the VCR via Scart OUT to Composite Video and Line in audio.
I then go to capture in VS 8 or 9, the picture and the sound appears fine and in good quality. Then I hit Capture, I see the capturing clip I am captureing, but then when I watch the captured video there is NO sound at all.
EDIT TO POST! I have now played around and managed to record sound with my Clips (i ticked the capture PCI audi input) but now when i preview what I want to capture it echoes. Then I capture the clip and after 3 seconds it stops and a message ' UNEXPECTED ERROR, THESAMPLE START TIME IS AFTER THE SAMPLE END TIME' but the clip has the 3 seconds of sound with it then stops and the video carrys on for another 2 seconds. Even in this capture the video clip has vertical lines accross the picture, not bad but still noticable. (VS9) Gave up on 8!

Even when I do capture the video, there is 2 black borders either side of the clip too making it smaller in with? I'm sure this is just a simple problem but any ideas to as i need it full screen prefebly!

currently running
512 RAM,
AMD ATHOLON 1.6 Ghz
XP
200GB Storage
Thanks very much

There are 2 settings to use for the audio mixer(s).
Both of them must be assigned properly.

The windows mixer or the mixer's software for the soundcard.

The first setting is the physical port you are plugged into which is
usually "Line-In".
The second is you have to also select the "Recording Input". So if the
capture device is plugged into "Line-In" then the recording input must be
assigned to the "Line-In" port.
These are 2 separate settings.

When you are in the capture screen goto the "Advanced Tab" and you
can assign/select the "Recording" audio input.
(Some programs default to the mic input).

Also look in your mixer settings. Sometimes there is a setting that
may say "disable monitoring while recording" or similiar. Audigy sound
cards use that feature.

Note that after recording and creating a file when you playback the
file it's played back through the "WaveOut" port of the soundcard.
That has nothing to do with the monitoring or recording ports.

Also, many capture cards have a setup screen. In that setup screen can
also be where you tell the capturing program what sound port to use.
If that's not setup properly you can't capture using any program.
The capture cards setup must be properly configured so when software
programs like ulead access the capture driver it's properly configured.

I would first check the windows mixer settings, both monitoring and
recording input selections.
Then look for the proper selection under the "Advanced Tab" in
Video_Studio's capture screen.

Hope this helps,

MD

After re-reading your post you may have more than just a mixer problem.

Ususally the echoing is the "Monitor while recording" setting. That setting
isn't in VS. It's in the software for the capture device or your soundcard.
The echoing can also be another conflict and
it also can be the driver(s) aren't compatible with VS or a directx problem/update.

ATI capture devices can do this.

If the capture card comes with it's own capturing software it's usually
better to use the software that came with the card to capture with.
Then import the videos into VS8/9.

Hope this helps,

Yes, the windows mixer AND any additional mixer's that come with your
soundcard.
The soundblaster cards come with their own sosftware mixers.

But, if you can use the software that came with the capture card, try capturing
video with that software. You may have a proprietory capture card.
Can you do that? Can you capture outside of VideoStudio using the software
that came with the capture card?

Hi,
No I ave tryed to capture with the given software 'TVR' but the same thing happens again, NO SOUND and the actual software is not that good and the picture quality is poor and jumps unlike VS 9.
I just really need to capture off a VCR with sound because I am editihg some one's home movie's all togeter and back on to VHS & DVD.
Thansk very much, #I have a fee day most of today so I will try all different settings in the sound mixers and surely I will be able to sort the problem out, but it's just that error message that come's up, what does that mean?
Kind regards

Hardware problem:
REINSTALL THE PCI capture card into a different PCI slot if
you have another available pci slot.
Avoid pci slot #1 (top). Usually shared with the AGP Graphics card.

Hope this helps,

Ok i'll give it a try, but it is in the second from top PCI slot, the top one it a smaller one and will not fit a normal PCI.

I do have somehting very starge going on tho, when i capture the vide as i said ther is no sound but, then when u drag it in to Project time line the sound is present but the picture is very behind and only a few frams PS. But when I go to normal file to wath the clip with Windows Media Player the sound it not ther!! where as it was on the project time line edit mode but again not on the preview mode!!!

I am getting a new PC in a few months, and i think it would all work fine on that but the only thing is I can no way wait that long, my friend is depending no me to get it finnished in a few more week's.
thanks very much
