"Unable to access the audio codec driver" error

Post by RCG »

I'm just starting out using this software and making videos... sorry for the noob questions.

I'm only a few seconds in to my video and a few clips in... and when I play it back I get weird audio feedback like a repetitive noise that appears to be an artifact of decompression. I tried to produce an output to see if it shows up there as well (as opposed to my project view playback) and near the end of processing the short clip, I get an error message:

"Unable to access the audio codec driver"

Any suggestions?

You may wan to post the properties of the video that you have in the time line, this way other people can have more information on your issue.

Also... this can be a codec issue and here are some of the codecs that you may want to install.

What is the format of your video and its audio? Right click on one of the clips in the VS timeline or library window and copy ALL of its Properties here, please.

Does the noise occur in Clip mode and/or in Project mode?

The same problem here.
I 've instaled all the codecs as recommended in this thread and still this pops up "Unable to access the audio codec driver".

Especially bought this software to make compilation of my homevideos and no succes.

Can someone help out?

Thank you.

Hi kaatje
and welcome to the forums.

Can you reply to Ken and his request for Video and Audio properties.

Also what version of video studio are you using.
Have you applied all patches and updates for VS?

Please read this post. will give you an idea as to the information required.

How do you install the XviD one?

Hi RCG

Can you give us some details regarding your video file.
Both Ken and myself and indeed Abiel have asked for this information.

If we knew these details we could probably advise you on an action to take.
I certainly would not have provided the links without knowing these details.

The Xvid link seems to access a download file .EXE
I would advise that you go to the Xvid web page to find any updates to their product/codec.

Again we ask what are the videos properties,
where did you get the video from
what are you intending to make, a DVD or video for the internet.

First, thank you both for your generous time and help. I know I'm a complete stranger and you owe me nothing. I actually don't remember any longer as I've been producing video after video for a week now and "fixed" the problem by using .avi sources as opposed to the .wmv source (using a 3rd-party converter). I can no longer reproduce the error due to having forgotten which file(s) it was.

Instead, I figured I'd install all the codecs recommended above just in case.

For me, it opens a .zip file and not an .exe. In fact, the link itself shows that it indeed is a .zip file.

Hi

Glad you have managed to work with your video files.

My policy is “if it isn’t broken it doesn’t need mending”

So for me installing a batch of updates is not what I would do.

Certainly if I had known that the issue was regarding WMV types then I would advised you to update Windows Media Player and probably download the Windows Media Encoder.
and if that didn't improve things converting the video to a more suitable editable format, which you seem to have done.

Enjoy the video editing
