PSPPX3 Color Management Proof Errors

Post by ronzie »

At some later patch level, soft proofing went out the window. If I use match to the printer profile I now get complimentary colors. If I use Proof I am not getting the print view.

Here's the test I ran:

I am using QIMAGE's soft proof function to view test target images I have downloaded:

http://www.northlight-images.co.uk/down ... _page.html the second image on the page and also a gray scale step image.

QImage correctly shows the change among print profiles including the gray scale step I distorted slightly for this check to show a red variation using a shareware icc/ipp modifier.

In PSPP I adjusted the printer profile to use a printer manufacturer profile, one I created in V2 format with the Color Munki Photo, one I modified to cause red distortion with the shareware application Color Darkroom v1 (only for 32 bit systems- I am on Win XP SP3 - 32)) plug-in, and looked for changes in the proof and match modes. Every time I changed the printer profile I rebooted PSPP just in case there was a profile caching problem.

Specifically, when I loaded up the gray scale image and used the reduced green red showing profile proof mode showed the gray scale as with the default registered profile. QImage showed the reddish image with this profile.

So to summarize:
In the regular view in match mode to the printer profile I am getting complementary colors. In proof mode I am not getting the effect of the printer profile I choose.

This is fairly recent.

Fortunately I have downloaded all of the service packs.

Will going to an early service pack redo roll back everything in PSPP ot do I need to reinstall?

Have you tried updating your DirectX and printer driver?

Depending your Windows OS, you can download the updated DirectX here.

Direct X: http://on-msn.com/aLrk0j (WinXP)
Direct X: http://www.microsoft.com/Windows/window ... tx-11.aspx

For the printer driver, I would suggest you consult with your printer tech support.

I have DX 9.c

Other apps like QImage and a plug-in for another editing application are fine for soft proofing.

I am on XP SP3 32 bit.
