FILE FORWARD MISMATCH (AGAIN)...

Post by n-noxon »

Many of the .VSP files I have saved will not open and deliver the "File forward mismatch" message. I would suspect my original files of being defective somehow but this has happened (for instance) to lesson files I have downloaded, edited and saved strictly as instructed to in Marc Bech's Video Studio Pro X4 book. These files are .avi, .mpg. and .jpg files and it doesn't seen likely they are defective. There is plenty of "file forward mismatch" discussion in the Corel forum but this is mostly people having trouble downloading video from outside sources or trying to save unusual types of files -- not the everyday file saving I am trying to do. I have talked to Corel support twice on this subject and the explanations varied -- (a) My problem is very unusual and there must be something wrong with the files I am trying to save or (b) My problem is not that unusual because the .VSP process is not that reliable. This second explanation has led me to not rely on .VSP but making MPEG videos to save my edits instead. This works OK but it seems as if .VSP should do what its intended to do. Anyone know what might be going on here? I am a new user of Video Studio and could be making a very simple error. Many thanks. nnoxon

Hi

Starting with the basics.
A VSP is a Video Studio Project, the file VSP relatively small containing the details of the edit timelines content.

When you first launch video studio you are working with a VSP, Untitled (top left) as you haven’t saved it, as yet.
File “Save” and give it a name and save location.

To open a Project (VSP) go to File – Open Project, browse the hard drive ensuring you do select a VSP, shown as a Corel Video Studio Document when viewing windows explorer in Detail view.

If somehow the system shows other types of file, you receive an error, probably mismatch.

Once you have used the project a couple of times the Project will be available as a quick launch from File, to the bottom of the list, 4 latest used being available.

---------------------------

To insert a video file to the library or timeline.
Right click the timeline-choose Insert Video, browse the hard drive for a video file Avi, Mpeg etc.

The clips will be inserted to the timeline ready for editing. At least that is what should happen.
Explain any errors you see……………

Take care………….
It is also possible to select a VSP whilst trying to insert the video, doing so will be successful, the process being known as “Nesting”. I do not recommend nesting as it can cause many problems.
So do not “Insert” a VSP into the timelines.

-----------------------------
To insert a Video File to the library, Right click and select Insert Media Files, or click the import folder top left. Browse the hard drive for Video, Images, audio, etc

Following the above what problems do you have.?

... And just as a footnote, that is a "file format mismatch" message, not file forward mismatch.

THANK YOU TREVOR! Following your procedures I have no problems at all. And I have been nesting alot which no doubt explains the mismatches. This may just be me but I would think this is an easy mistake for the beginner to make... One would think -- sure you should use VSP files to edit -- they are small and would seem easy to manipulate while leaving the real video files safely alone until you are ready to complete a final cut and share it...

And yes its FORMAT not FORWARD. How did I manage that?

Anyway, thanks again. You have lifted a big burden from my mind. I'm only sorry I can't send you a ticket to Alaska! nnoxon

Hi
Just goes to show that sometimes I read what I want to see as to be honest I didn’t notice the typo’

Nesting, Un-intentionally inserting a VSP into another is going to cause problems.

“Hide Extensions for known file types” you may have changed this, if not read on.

Identifying the files in Windows Explorer can be made a little easier if you can see the file extensions, jpeg, Bmp, Mpeg, VSP etc
By default the pc has turned this option off, but you can change that.
From any folder select Tools-Folder Options-View the option “Hide Extensions for known file types” is selected, deselect and your files will show the extension making it easier to identify.

Not to worry about Alaska, we have been once and at sometime is gonna get another visit, the wildlife is remarkable……….
